Calling 2000 I30 owners: Cabin Air Filter

Hello everyone,

I recently tried to replace the cabin air filter in my 2000 I30. The filter resides in the area behind the glovebox. When I opened the slot where the filter should sit in, I found it to be empty! My owner's manual has no mention of a in cabin air filter, whereas the 2001 and beyond I30 owner's manual do mention a cabin air filter.

Could someone with a 2000 I30 confirm if they have a cabin air filter or not?

Thanks a lot,
mdabral

I just took mine in for a 37k service and they replaced it it looks like a 8x11 piece of paper and 1" thick.

PS: also there is a recall on a tranny sensor..

My '02 I35 is going in June 8th for the recall on the "crankshaft" sensor. I also have the "service engine" light to deal with. I've discussed this issue in a previous post. I also responded directly to the fellow with the missing interior air filter. I will update the Forum on the recall issue.

Thanks to shortimer's help, I finally was able to figure out the cabin air filter confusion. My car did have a slot for the cabin air filter, but the car did not come with any filter. When I called my local dealer, he said that some cars came with the filters and some did not. It did not make sense, but that is the way it seems.

I ordered the cabin air filter (it is actually two cartridges of carbon black filled filter) for around $43 dollars. The cabin filter is located behind the passenger side glove box. You have to remove the glove box to access the area. A clip holds the door to the area where the filter rests. The filter parts come with a diagram and a description of how to replace the filter.

I think it is an easy do it yourself. The Infiniti dealer asked me for $150, which I think is a major rip off.

Thanks everyone,

There has been a part change regarding the interior cabin air filter on I30s and I35s. The original filter was a single piece. The new part is made up of TWO smaller filters as noted in the previous post. I asked the price for these filters at the Infiniti dealer and was quoted $41.95 for the two items. That sounds about right. I also priced the single filter several months ago, before the part change, and was quoted a figure of around $45 by a local Nissan dealer. The Infiniti and the Nissan Maxima share the same filter. At least the 2002 models do.
My car has 20,450 miles on it now so I might be changing out the stock filter. I gave it a cleaning at the 10K mark. It's a little work to get at it (behind the glove box which has to be removed) but it can be done by anyone who can turn a screwdriver and wrench.
