Hi every one,
I have 96 Taurus with about 180,000 miles and I am trying to solve a transmission problem to sell it. The car is very clean from inside and outside and everything (other than the transmission) run great on it. I had this problem since I bought the car 3 years ago but never been changed or even get worse. The car seems to drop into gear with a thud and a lurch forward. For example, after decelerating around corners if I accelerate quickly it happens. If I decelerate for someone passing the street (without complete stop) and try to accelerate again it happens too. Lately, I hear sounds as if the Drive axles are going bad when I take turns or accelerate hard from the front wheels. The sound comes also when the transmission switches gears sometimes. The car is a wagon 1996 and the gear doesn't have the over drive option. If this would help, the "Check Engine" lamp is on and the codes from the computer are:
P0131 (Upstream heated O2 sensor circuit low voltage (Bank1)
P0340 (Camshaft Position sensor circuit malfunction)
P0401 (EGR insufficient flow detected)
P0420 (Catalyst System efficiency below threshold)
P1131 (?? Don’t know what is it about??)
However, the engine runs great and never been open or burn oil.
Also, it would be great if some one tell me how much I should ask for it.
Thank you very much in advance for your help

I think that you have a few problems hear. How did you get the codes, and after the codes were retrieved was a second test ran to see if the codes were continueous or hard codes. If they were then you need to fix these problems one at a time. The codes you listed are monitored systems by the PCM. If the PCM is getting the wrong info from a faulty input or sensor, the output is gonig to be incorrect. B.S. in -B.S. out.

i don't have any answers for u but i got worse tranny problems.

i got the tranny rebuilt but the problems are still there.

when ur cruisin in 3rd and pin the gas the engine revs right up to
5 grand then lets 2nd gear out and the wheel cherp like i hit the NOS button. the car has almost 200,000 MILES on it, so im gona drive it till it dies. just hope its not too far from home. :lol2:

Did the toque convertor get replaced with the rebuild. Because that sounds like the convertor is not locking up. :sunglasse

i don't know for sure, but how can the torque converter make this kind of problem?? actually the car does feel funny when i'm accelerating. when i'm pushing it, i have the revs but it doesn't feel as fast as it use to be. it looks like it's losing power somewhere....i think ur on to something.

this car drives me crazy
thanks for the help.

ok omar , theres 2 things you need to look into according to the tsb , first is to check the fluid level on your transmission i know you already checked that but also i would recommend you to replace the trans. filter , also theres another bulletin that about the pcm this module aparently needs to be reprogrammed you could do this at the dealership for 80 bucks well thats what they charge here it only takes 10 minutes andit could solve all your prblems with that car , the pcm has a lot of tasks one of those tasks is to tell the computer and the tranny when your turning or slowing down ... you see when a car turns one wheel turns less than the other and that and there is when this pcm is sending that info to the computer if you want to sell that car i would say 2000 o.b.o. but hey thats just my opinion dont get offended or anything. ok i hope this info helps you a little , your best bet is to take your car to the delalership and ask them to run a diagnostic on it so you can fix each and every problem afterwards its less than 100 dlls and that way you wont be all worried about getting from point a to point b

good nite

The 94 Sable I bought yesterday does the same thing. I changed the filter and fluid, and overall performance got better, but still jerky shifting now and then, especially down shifts. As I was driving I noticed this happened only when the LED speedometer was reading 0 as I was driving. Since shifts on this AXOD are electronic, I'm hoping it's the Vehicle Speed Senor. Watch your speedometer when this is happening.
