Fun with loose lugnuts

Well, let me just say I'm glad to be alive tonight. Yesterday my buddy and I decided to put on my summer wheels. I did the rears while he did the fronts.... Fast foward to today driving down the street. I hear an odd sound and my car starts pulling to the left.... BAM! Left wheel comes completely off, goes fliying through traffic amazingly avoiding all vehicles. Meanwhile, I'm trying my best not to hit the cars parked on the side of the road. Successfull, thankfully.

After some cussing and minor heart palpitations I get out to assess the damage. To my fucking amazement, all of my lugnuts were retrieved by onlookers. Inspected my wheel studs.... all threading is fine! Only damage is to the rotor.... a little chewed up on the edges. Worst part is my fender got a little smashed by the wheel flying off.

Put my wheel back on with the help of a handy onlooker. Drove home. Car didnt shake, and alignment was fine! A true testament of honda quality. :iceslolan

I'll post pics tomorrow of the damage.

PS, Always double check the work of your friend since he has no mechanical ability whatsoever. :nono:

PLEASE DONT FLAME ME!

Yes.... and behold... they were loose. The rears remained tight even after driving around.

In a lifetime which includes hundreds and hundreds of tire swaps, I did indeed forget to tighten one wheel, one time.
I got the unforgettable experience of watching a wheel come off of the vehicle and pass me.
My father had described this state of being; now I understand him a little better...and I tighten the f***in' lug nuts!
Then I tighten them again the next day.

PS-You are in good company. Now, if it happens twice, THEN you're a dumbass...

i guess i've been lucky, anytime i havent gotten a lug nut tight enough i heard the wheel clunking and turned around and finished the job. glad no one got hurt. better not let your buddy help with the calipers, might be better off on your own with those. lol
