This particular aluminum block is too soft and will rip the main cap bolts free from the block. See my post on page one

If we are going to start making crazy claims like this i just want to say my dad can beat up your dad.

Last time i check the ecotec seemed to fall to many a car that doesn't hold that much power.

keep in mind that the blocks in NHRA 300mph drag cars are aluminum, albeit purpose built.

so it's not the material, it's the quality of the build.
it's also the sleeves, the reinforcement for the threaded holes in the block, etc.

ecotec, are you claiming YOUR motor can make 1000hp just b/c the ecotec drag cars can?
do you realize that those motors are hand built, with a considerable amount of testing, and non-stock (non-ecotec, anyways, they use GM rods) parts?

did you know that anything over 275hp in a stock ecotec engine will snap rods?
hmm...

Actually, the ecotec can make surprising numbers on stock parts. If I remember correctly, when GM was building their drag cavalier, they tested it. Just added nitrous untill something broke, replaced what broke, added more nitrous untill something else broke, etc. I think they made it to 300hp completely stock. I do believe the car stephanie reaves (sp?) drives still uses the stock block and makes somewhere around 6-700 hp. Keep in mind that the block is probably the only stock part on the whole car, but still. It's not the 1000hp that ECOT3C is claiming, but surprising from a pos shitbox like the cavalier.

I was just making the claim that the aluminum block "on the tib" is its weak point. I am not knocking aluminum, I know its advantages it just takes way more money/engineering to make it work for you. Take the 3SGTE in the MR2, cast block. My friend made 700+ on the stock block, rods, crank. I was just letting anyone know who is going to consider getting a tiburon to get the 4 cyl as it has more potential. I also may have some "anger" issues, because I am hearing a lot of ricer stories having to do with the tiburon, and its one of those things that when you know the potential of something and people get so cocky about it you just ask yourself, why?
