ok i know I have a gs ,now with a catback and intake it should of helped a little, but i swear this car from a red light could get beat by a geo, lol,it just doesn't have enough in 1st(oh its auto)but in 2nd and 3rd it has more balls,so i guess the question is ,how do i get it faster from a redlight? please help cuz its embarrasing, thanks ps. go sox

I'm guessing for a more responsive launch you should look at some stall converters and a shift kit, eventually maybe you might want to turbo it or save up for a gst/gsx your choice.

why not try holding your foot on the brake and the gas until the car starts to spin tire or move. then let off a little bit, when the light turns green let off the brake and push the gas down all the way. you will be in your powerband earlier and lauch faster
or get a stall converter it is alot better but does almost the same thing

good launch ideas, but it still helps 0 with his power problem. gs's, are slow.. sorry man. not a whole lot you can do about it. I'd say go for some headers, and a full cai (if you don't have one) get a test pipe to replace the cat or gut it. I had underdrive pulleys on my old GS and they helped a lot in the lower rpm's. and they're not too incredibly expensive. short of those things, all you can do is start boring out the block and other stuff like that. or turbo it... but I"d just sell it and but a gst or gsx. Just my 2 cents

smaller tires would raise the gear ratio and help acceleration, but your be shifting earlier. id also try a lightweight flywheel to help get up towards the powerband faster. but yeah a turbo would really help you a great deal. turbo'in a non turbo isnt unheard of, and i refer you to sticky thread on turbocharging rs/gs cars. you could always try to spray sum juice through first too.. a small shot.. like 35.. would help your cause.

How much work and money would it be to make my auto a stick?

just save up for a GST or a GSX you like their first gear its got real torque plus to make more power is a lot easier and cheaper.....oh yah if you can get a stick

Yeah...my thought would just to save up for a turbo car....either that...or if you are too impatient...just....well...sorry...they are just slow...haha...I have one myself...it helps if it's a stick

yeah i know if it was a stick it would be faster, but check this out i had a real shitter before i got this it was a 88 mazda 626,and i swear it had more power than this car from a redlight,so basicly what you guys are saying is that if its not a turbo these cars are this slow, man, ill tell ya my dads malibu would smoke this, now im not talkin about pickup when im moving cuz the car can go if im already moving but just from a stand still, shit i couldn't spinn the tires if i was on ice, lol,it almost seems like the average car would smoke me from a redlight, and my car was not beat it still drives like its new,im just havin trouble believing these are this slow, well anyways thanks for the ideas and ill just keep tryin, turbo on a gs will cost way to much for me,and i would sell it but i finance it so its not mine yet or i would, but thanx people

everybody saying that he should get a turbo isnt thinking very much. from a redlight a nt should be just as fast cuz a turbo doesnt have any boost until the rpms get up. my guess would be that you're transmission is acting up. but try the powerbraking thing (holding the brakes while bringing the rpms up as high as you can with the car staying still then let go of the brake and floor it)

Sorry dude but rice burners suck. Jap crap will never be as fast as american muscle. Go buy yourself a v-8. Honestly how much power do you expect to get from 4 cylinders without laying down 10 grand at least. :screwy: Trans ams, Camaros, and Mustangs all the way :smokin:

anyways .... try geting the transmission flushed with some really good redline or royal purple oils that will help shifting and free up some hp

you should try doing the basics like exhaust , intake, bored throttle body, port and polished head and others like that, and automatics are just fine dont let ppl diss on the auto its just opinion read a thread on dsmtuners.com on the faq threads there is one on 5spd vs automatic (but dam sticks are funner than hell)

if you live on the east coast. i've quoted a price of $6000 to get it converted to stick. it's just not worth it. maybe in the west it can be done little cheaper.
perhaps a better Torque Converter might help.
personally i already have all the the basic mods done to my car, so the next thing on my list would be a TC to utilize all the moded HPs.
and a word from my mech, AT on those eclipse just SUCKS big monkey balls ass!!!.. but no worries, a nice performance TC should help a bunch.

yes it will help especially with a shift kit also ans as for the auto trannys i disagree read the thread at dsmtuners.com about auto vs 5 speed and get some intelligent info from ppl who have experience from both trannys in the same car before you say auto sux. Ppl who own automatics read it and you wont feel bad about owning an auto anymore dont let ppl tell you they sux

I have a 95 GS (5sp) and have installed the following:
-AEM cold air intake-$170 (made it sound faster)
-OBX Catback exhaust $200(sound faster and felt a little faster)
-OBX Header w/ OBX downpipe-$175 (what a difference in low-end torque)
-High flow cat-$45 (probably not legal, but I'm in rural Texas, this made a huge difference combined w/ the above mentioned parts)
-18" ADR wheels ($230 on ebay!!) w/ $700 worth of Cooper tires -now this is where the car felt much slower, replacing the stock 16" package I felt much slower. With the stock tires I could easily spin off the line at will and if the streets were wet I had big traction problems. On the other hand the car looked much better and cornered better and there is ZERO tire slip (unless I drop the clutch at 5000+ rpm)
My OBX air intake manifold -$225 came in this week and I'm looking for a bigger throttle body to match.
Next is a short throw shifter w/ better shift plate bushings
and upgrades to ignition system.
The car is probably not much faster than when I started (you really have to work it to keep up shifting at redline) but I don't want to get into the engine or add a turbo/supercharger. This car is great and I've gotten lots of comments but I WANT MORE POWER! So I'll probably keep this as a reliable daily driver for when I find my next project RX-7 (I'm addicted to these things of all the cars I have owned I like RX-7's the best and really miss rear wheel drive).
So I agree with everyone above - either trade up for a Turbo DSM or if you've got the time or money add a supercharger or turbo.

PS- the 420a is a domestic motor originating from Chrysler and on the twisties around my town most lighter weight better handling import cars can easily keep pace w/ the Mustangs (with outdated rear suspension) and sloppy handling GM pony cars--so fast could be in a straight line or around a circuit.

I could go on and on but my point is with mods any of the domestic/import cars can easily match each other.
Saying Jap cars are crap is useless because many domestic and import car companies share engines, componets, and platforms w/ each other
and they will just keep improving to our benefit.
