Aside from the IDI cover and the VIN. How can you identify a HO engine?

on the back side of the "log" part of the manifold. so you would have to take it off the motor to look at it. the only problem is someone could have put an ho mani and IDI cover on a LD2. The year of the car can help figure out if it is an LGO or not.

The car is a 93. The Vin Says it is a HO engine, it just doesn't perform as I would expect. Also isn't The exhaust manifold differant than the LO engine.

yes the LGO mani is larger. also the 93 was rated at 170-180hp unlike the older LGO's that made 185hp

you can tell be cause most H.O's come w/a 5 speed i have 2 ga's one is a 89 w/L.O auto and a 91 w/ ho 5 speed. and every HO that i have seen has came stock with a 5 speed. some LO's have 5 speeds too. but its more common on newer GA's.
