No Instrument Panel or Tail Lights

I have a 4 cyl. "95 Grand-Am. First my high mount break light went out, then my instrument panel lights, then my tail lights. I've already gotten pulled over 5 times by police and now have to drive with my flasher's on at night. I've changed the tail lights with no success and taken the dash panel cluster out and inspected those bulbs which are not blown. I am trying my best to stay away from the dealer who will charge me around $104 just to look at my problem. Has anyone encountered this problem? If so please help me out and others in the Grand Am forum with the same problem.

Try checking the fuses.

It sounds like the control modules are bad. I would check the fuses first. If I'm not mistaken... The control modules for the headlights if it goes out the dash won't light and sometimes it shorts out the brake light and they won't work either.... Someone i knew had this problem. The only odd one is the 3rd brake light. That light is not on the same ciruit as the rest of the light so it should still light. did you check the bulbs in there? The only other thing for the brake light is the brake light sensor( i think that's what it is called) it's the thing behind your brake pedal that triggers the lights to go on when you press the brakes. that might be bad or not being pushed in when you hit the pedal. I would bring the car to a private garage, you may pay a little more for the service, but you won't encounter the fee for them to look at it.

Your High Mount Stop Lamp is not working on the back but do your brake lamps work?

When your park lamp switch is ON are both your tail lamps AND the front marker lamps inoperative?

I will assume that in addition to your instrument panel lamps that stuff like backlighting of radio and and door switches is inoperative, right?

Thanks "grfnkl" I was thinking about that myself but wasn't sure yet, needed another opinion. I will give that headlight module a try.

Replying to "e2helper", Yes my brake lamps work but my high mount stop light isn't because I haven't changed the bulb yet, but I'm sure there are no problems with it once I change the bulb. When my park lamp switch is on my front marker lamps work but my tail lamps are not. Yes in addition to my instrumental panel lamps, my backlighting on everything is off except for my Pioneer CD player which has an independent back lit display.
