new to jettas.. help plz

hi.. im looking for a car to buy and was originally looking for a 240sx but saw a 98 jetta gl with 63k miles for $6000... and was thinking about getting it because it was in pretty good condition... but was wondering how much it would take to make a decently fast jetta... like would u have to swap engines or is stock good enough to add onto?? and ive read a few threads talking about a vr6, but im not sure what it is... is it a v6 jetta or something different?... haha i sound like a hardcore newbie... sorry i only know stuff about japanese imports....

and i noticed that the gl didnt have power windows... is there a way to add power windows onto it and would it be expensive?... cause right now i drive my moms car and the roll down windows are ANNOYING as hell..

(p.s. and the guy that tells everyone to get a v8... i cant afford a v8 car... so... dont even say v8s are faster blah blah blah)
