Block question

I'm just wondering if it's possible to repair a crack in an engine block.
The crack is in a water jacket on the outside of the block, so it doesn't interfere with anything crucial. I will try to get a pic of it tomorrow.

A machine shop should be able to weld and machine the crack..

Yeah, how'd you know that?
I didn't get any pics if it, but I got the #'s off of the block.
GM 3970010
Crank # 3932442
Intake # 404520
Anybody have clue?
It's a '70's engine... I didn't get the # from the heads, they were buried under few boxes of internals and such.

ha same place mine was cracked, i didnt bother to get it fixed, and the block i decieded to build up has that same casting # on the block you have, the machine shop said it was a good block, he liked the casting #, the 0010 casting number is a 70-75, its out of a truck/passengercar/camaro/chevelle/corvette,

Thanks ridge, checked out that site and many others. I guess I have to find more #'s to pin point the engine exactly.
The guy who gave it to me said it might be an old LT1.... but I might be getting my hopes up for nothing.
The block #'s match up with what he says, Lt1's were built with this casting #. I should get the #'s from the heads.... that'll help narrow it down some.:)
