Targa Top Structure Loss

ok everynight when i go to bed i dream of one thing.. cutting off the roof and making my 2g a targa top.. now i naturally assume theres structual support in the roof, and that well cutting a big azz gap in it would mess with that. I'm also assuming that on the spyders they add some extra support on the undercarrage to compensate.. so does n e 1 have ideaz of how to strenghen the underside so i can cut up on top? and also for a long shot n e 1 got n e ideas on how to make the top go back on so i dont get rained on? peace...

just like the guy did on dsmtuners.com... he used weather stripping and some brackets to make the top removable... and to make the car stucture more sturdy... us a roll cage!!!

i had an idea to use the locking mechanisms from a spyder somehow.. like make pegs on the back of the top that go into holes as u slide it in and then have the front lock down or somethin... as for a rollcage yeah without the roof structure i was at least gonna put a roolbar behind the front seats.. i figured i could weld some steal tubing all over on the undercarrage to stiffen it up or somthing.. id like to get a good look at a spyder vs a hatch on a lift or somethin. it might show me what the factory did to beef it up. only problem i can see is my car has a sunroof.. im not sure if itll clear the sunroof motor n stuff when i cut it and im wondering how i can make a hookup for the wires to run the thing...

You're not going to find any room under the car to be adding structural supports. Not without interferring with the exhaust and driveshaft. Well, if you're FWD it may be easier, just the exhaust to deal with. I would roll cage it. Best thing you can do for chassis rigidity.

yeah its front wheel... and yeah its seeming more and more weird to do anything down below. the rollcage sounds good. i guess ill warm up the saw then haha.. naw i need to figure out some sort of plan for the removable top issue... any ideas on what to fabricate to lock it down?

why wouldnt it work with a sunroof? i figured i wouldnt have room for the motor in front of it but i thought hell if i have targa top i dont care if the sunroof works. i was thinking i could just pull the sunroof motor, and rails and stuff and just mount the glass there or make it like the non power ones that just flip up. im pretty sure without the motor and stuff ill have bout 3 inches of metel between the sunroof and the front cut.

about the only thing you could do is pull the sun roof and silicone the glass in there in order for it to work... the rails that it rids on go about 8-10 inches back from the sunroof so if you were to cut those you would loose support of the sunroof, its possible but its a lot of fuckin around! i have been interested in it for quite some time now and i have even talked about it with the dude off of www.dsmtuners.com (http://www.dsmtuners.com) and got some very useful info...

yeah man iv been wanting to do it since i bought the car cuz my cousin used to have a del sol and i just find the whole targa top deal sweet as hell. yeah i dont think i can make it a working sunroof as well as targa top.. thats asking for to much action on one somewhat small roof lol. im thinking bout trying to find a 2g at a junkyard thats hit to hell on the back or front but has a good roof and talking the guy into letting me cut the roof off so i can make a roof insert or something... i dunno i got a crazy cousin who made a convertible integra who pretty handy when it comes to cutting cars up..
