i want some smart poeple opinions about swaping my stock 160k mile engine with maybe a skyline engine a rear wheel drive one? is it possible to do this if i custom fabricate a drive tranny and so on and so on or is it better to just us a 350z motor and turbo it? and also to a sponsors stand point a skyline swap would be mad insain but a 350z engine turboed wouldnt get much attention would it? i donn just need some poeple opinion and im a serious person i have the bread$ to do so but i need a second opinion. also what a good skyline engin to use thats rear wheel drive that will fit the maxima chassy and engine bay? please give me ur opinion :banghead: thanks

If you have the money to all that, why not just get a skyline or a 350Z and turbo it? that would make more sense. But anyway, With enough money anything is possible. I think the RWD skylines were the R32 or R33s. they had the RB25DETT

MAybe if you can find a way to put Maxima body panels on a skyline...then it would work. Ok, Lets see. A 350 will run between 30-37 grand, and all the work you'll have to do will probably run you almost that much if not more.

Ok, its more than just an engine swap. you need to buy the engine and RB's aren't exactly a dime a dozen. Then you have to get the drive train, the harnesses....basically everything but the frame, body and Interior. Then you have to get the Custom Fabrication done. You have to pay for not only the work, but the labor charges. There is a good chance that I'm way off, but for some reason I don't think I am.
So...30g for an engine sway? Its quite possible.

I spent some time over in the Skyline forum. Most the guys that actually have a skyline spent in the neighborhood of $60K to get the cars. A sustantial chunk went to customs, importer/mod team. The engine had to modified to american standards before it could be registered and driven leagally in the United States. This process means you WILL lose some of the power. And it costs $16K-20K just to get it here. You want the power of Godzilla, you must pay.
You got that kind of money, just buy the Skyline and let the importer give it the treatment. You'll have 350hp+ to put a whoopin on practically anyone. Pickup groceries and kids in the max.

buy a 1989 R32 GTR. as of 1/1/04 they are legal to drive in the us without being emissions standardized and can be had for around $8K used with less than 100K miles or km or whatever.

I saw a GTS for cheap, the GTR were all late models and over $20K US. Either way, driving on the wrong side of car would just freak me out.

they have a 1990 GTR for like $10,200 on that web page. the later models are definitely pricey. personally i'd be almost as a happy with a RWD Rb25 skyline. they also have a 97 silvia 5 speed for under $10K

The fact that you mention sponsors makes this sound like just another ricer fantasy. Swapping a rear-wheel-drive, twin-turbocharged engine into a front-wheel-drive family car like the Maxima would be nearly impossible and unbelievably expensive. You'd be better off getting a rear-wheel-drive G35 coupe, modifying it to look like a JDM Skyline (not too difficult, I see it done around here all the time), and turbocharging it. It won't be quite as fast as a true Skyline, but it will be much cheaper and easier to obtain.

Import tuner just did an article on a twin turbo charger (GReddy) for the 350Z. I believe it is on their website now. Seeing as the VQ35 is tuned the same way for the skyline/G35 and the 350Z it may work in that application. Go for the G35 anyway even if you dont do any mods.

Or wait until 2007 when they introduce the skyline GT-R to the USA.

or buy a G35x(AWD) and put the TT greddy kit on that. Greddy's kit is said to pump out 440 RWHP so it'd probably be 420 AWHP, and it's already the same ATTESSA tranny that is on the GTR's stock. that'd kill a stock R34 GTR and is probably what the upcoming skyline is going to be, more or less.
