ok. recently the ignition system went out, replaced the coil, distrubutor, and a few other things.

Now when we time it, it will idle just fine, but as soon as we aply any pressure to the accel it just makes all kinds of noise and vibrates like crazy.

Seems like a computer issue to me, but i am completly clueless on how that timing advance crap works. This is my dads van and we have had several people come out and check it out.. now one knows(not mechanics, just friends who know alot about cars)

its like the timing is just right untill you aply gas then it starts firing way to soon, but if we back it down untill that stops, the car just dies, no mater what position the distributor is in it still does it.

Please help soon, need it runing by monday.
4.3 litter tbi (dont think its the same engine the van was built with)
ill reply in a min with more info, gota find number on block to identify motor

Did you disconnet the... what's it called... ESC wire? It's a brown&tan wire that must be disconnected when setting the timing...

Did you do this when you set the timing?

yes.. and with that thing off its almost imposible to time it, it vibrates so much and the timing jumps up and down so much its imposible to get a acurate read with the timing light.

Cant find number on engine, so cant identify engine, but we think that we may have it off by 180, so we are going to try that now. Ill reply as soon as we finish to let you all know if it worked or not. incase it dosnt work please post any other ideas you may have

Not sure on the two timing marks. You're talking about two marks on the balancer right?

Pick the one that the distributor needs the least input from. I mean the least amount of advance, turning it clockwise to advance it. Then tighten the dist. down and hook up the ESC wire.
