Whats up guys. I just signed papers for a 2001 F-150 XLT so of course I've already got the bug. It's a 5.4 off-road edition. Whats are some good cat-back systems to look around at. I dont need anything really loud, just something that will sound nice and clean. Thanks

Borla, some tailored for Ford trucks, Magna Flow are good truck pipes not to mention they have awesome high flow cats for big trucks(displacement)

Man I have a Borla Muffler on my truck and it sounds good but hardly loud enough. I noticed a pretty decent change in performance though. When I say not being it loud enough, I mean it. I don't want something real loud but something you could hear when you were on it, this muffler sucked. It was a little bit louder sounding than a Tundra with a stock muffler on it. It had a good deep tone from around 1800-2100 rpm range. I thought it would sound good because the mustangs sound pretty tough with it on. I also think it's not loud because of the trucks cats, it cleans and quiets the truck way to good.

I have a 4.2 f-150 with a glasspack, and its not as loud as my 4.3 s-10 which was loud as shit, the f-150 has 2 cats and 2 pre cats(i think) so its pretty muffled in my opinion

Yeah I know. It sucks that they have to put that much pollution and sound control stuff on there now. It just temps people more to screw with the cats and stufff. I sure am thinking about messing with it. I know they have a cheater O2 sensor you can get, so it will send a good signal to your computer. I have heard if your remove or gut your Cats you loose a lot of low-end. I would hate to do this, but I don't think you can get a muffler to put on there that will be loud. Has anyone heard the Flowmaster super 40, is it any good?

anyone have an opinion on how a mac system would sound? They are pretty cheap, like $300.

stage racer 20,
I got a mac intake, I know your talking about exhaust, but I wasn't impressed with the quality of the intake. The air filter kept drying out, the hoses they gave me were junk, etc. I would go with flowmaster, I think they have the toughest sound and performance for the price.

Yeah I've had two mac intakes on my stang. First I bought the standard(in the engine bay) one and the filter ripped off where you clamp it. So I called up mustangs unlimited where I bought it and they sent me a new one, fenderwell mount, for free so I didnt complain. They didnt even ask for the old one back. Yeah I was looking into a Flowmaster kit too, but I wanted something different than I have already. Plus the ohc motors nowdays sound "throatier" and I think flows sound better on ohv motors personally.

I don't know what would be better, Like I said I've heard some Borla's on Mustnags and they sounded tough. I think they cost to much though. I hate that I got a Borla on my truck it's hardly loud at all, but when it's 1600-2300 rpm it's sound tough. I think if you have the money go get a Borla. I also think Granetelli makes a popular exhaust for stang's.
