Howdy Everyone,

I have a 1976 El Camino that I'm putting a Cadillac 500 CI engine into. Tight fit, but it should run like a scalded dog when she is done. The driver door is full of bondo, and I am looking for another El Camino to replace it with. Does anyone here know what other GM models might work? I'm sure the 73-77 malibu, chevelle, and el camino will work, but will any of the pontiacs or buicks work as well? This might help me with more options to pick from.

Great site and great board by the way.

I've had great luck at my local auto dismantler (junkyard). They have a computerized interchange file that answers exactly which doors will fit and won't. They saved me time and money once by NOT selling me a door I would have bet lots of money on that it would have fit.

PS. I'm also going to put a 500 in a '68 and I've been referring to it as my El Cadimino...guess I wasn't the first...anyway I'd be curious to get some insights from you...sounds like you're farther along than I. Dave

Hi Dave,

My project is close to driveable, but still lots of work left to do. I picked up another El Camino today for $300. I priced some parts and they were close to that figure so I thought I would just by the whole car. The one I picked up was in better shape than the one I had, but I'm not going to scrap the work I've already done. I can swap some of the parts(driver door and tailgate) and be in good shape. Kepp me posted on your progress.
