NGK Plug Info

Anyone who may be interested in what the different numbers on the plug means from NGK this is their PDF file that has it.

I know that the FSM recommends the 5B's as the standard and the 6 and 7B's for the alternative plugs.

Do you think this would matter of the heat range of the plug based on what kind of climate you are in? Or is it basically how much more power you a running than stock and you need to go to a cooler plug. Would also going to a 6 be better for the engine or would that reduce performance?

Early in 1993 (I think) there was a Technical Service Bulletin that changed the standard plug for SR20DE engines to "6".
5 & 7 were the alternatives.

Generally No.

Yes.

Yes it would be better and No it will not reduce performance.

(who assumes we are talking about an SR20DE engine).

They changed the plug to a warmer 5b11 after the cars kept fouling on the docks. The standard was 6b but changed in the US around 1993, unsure about rest of world. I run a 7b with no problems, but also 19degrees of advance and 8.8mm leads. I think plugs alone maybe good for 2hp. More depending on rest of engine.

You may be right since I drive an early SR20DE equiped car.
However, on SE-R.NET you can find the folowing TSB:

which changes the suggested std plug for Classics later (than 4/91) to 6 (from 5). This is what I had in mind. If later (1993) they switched again to 5 I was not aware of it.

Your are right. I didn't realise that the change was made so early in 91 i thought it was a bit later. Cheers:D

Look at the TSB doesn't it say it changed from a 6 to a 5. former to new
