Electrical Problems

I have a 1988 Fiero 4 cylinder.
Two weeks ago my Fiero shut down on a return trip.
The car shut down with NO warning. Just went dead.
Had it towed to a garage. The mechanic put on a new serpentine belt.
It ran fine for the next two weeks.

Returning home a few nights ago, the headlights and dashboard lights started flashing in a very erratic manner. Every time I would accelerate, it got worse. The car surged very badly. Luckily, I was able to get the car home, then it died in the driveway. It will not turn over and is COMPLETELY dead.
Has anyone had a similar experience? I was thinking it may be the ignition module.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks....

I've had an ignition coil go bad on my GT. It would die once the engine compartment got hot enough, and it wouldn't start until it had cooled down. I got home by stopping to pour water on it every couple of miles. The damned thing is right directly on top of the exhaust crossover!

Anyway, after it died it would turn over. It just wouldn't start because there was no spark until it would cool down. Is this anything like your problem? Does it start back up once it cools down some?

Check the charging system. If the lights surge or go dim that is a good indication of charging problems. Maybe it's putting to much out and cooking the battery.

RedFiero and all others who posted.
I have found the problem.
Too easy, bad battery terminal...
Was not showing, traced it...now fixed.
Everything is great.
Thanks to all again.

Good going Joe. Be sure and use some kind of protective coating on the new terminals.

there has to be some thing missing when it dose not start.....the trick is catchinig it when its not starting....intermitint stuff means loose wires..or opens or shorts.... wiggal the wires while starting or running the car.... see what happens..
