Get an o/r h pipe or gut your cats. That will definetly give you a louder sound.

Are these two or three chamber Flowmasters? If you really want sound, you need the two chamber Flowmasters with an off-road h-pipe or x-pipe. I've heard some people say that the x-pipe with Flowmasters sounds a little "raspy" so you could try an h-pipe instead. Personally I like the sound of the h-pipe better, even though I prefer x-pipes for power; but it doesn't really make a difference until you’re on the high end of the 300 hp mark. My friend had an h-pipe with two chamber Flowmasters on a 96 GT (pretty stock) and that thing sounded awesome.
Just my :2cents: If you REALLY want to get crazy you can actually gut the mufflers. (I wouldn't) I know a kid that did that on a 96 Cobra, plus an h-pipe. That thing can be heard from about 3 blocks away. His neighbor actually stopped using an alarm clock because of that. True Story.

Do what they do around here, just run 3" pipes out of the cat straight back with no exhaust. It isn't as loaud as you think but should be enough for what you want.

Dont gut your cats unless you like burning up 02 sensors. They depend on the heat that the cats restrictive internals hold to run right or even run at all. Straight pipes sound like hell. If you want louder gest headers a 1 chamber flowmasters. Dont go cheap, cheap exaust wont last long and sounds nasty

That's good way to lose power on a basically stock car! LOL, don't ever utilize this redneck type exhaust system! It will sound like shit as well!

Yup, I agree! Gutting the cat is one of the worst things you could do! Off road h-pipes are not that expensive, so why even bother with the hassle of gutting.

If you want the most sound out of your car, then mufflers is a good starting point. 3 chamber flows will be pretty quiet, which I am assuming you have, while 2 chambers have a nice growl and a noticeable change. Headers and an o/r h-pipe will most definitely help out with making the car sound louder, even with 3 chambers. Now if your going to have a loud car, I hope you have the bit to back up your bark!

~if you angle the tips downward right before your rear tires it will give your car an extremely agressive tone. my 98GT has a cat back but the exhaust angles down before the rear tires and gas tank. almost have to yell while driving unfortunately. sounds great if you dont own it but is a pain if its your daily driver.

I like my straight pipes with 2.5 inch pipe. I didn't loose any power and I have gotten so many complements on it around here, but thats just the sound I like. I don't like the way flowmasters sound when you let off the gas.
I'm just a stupid redneck/hick I guess, but hey I enjoy what ever I am it works for me.(I'm a smart!@# sorry)

one makes the shape of an "X" and one makes the shape of a "H". its the way the two different sides come together. the X takes a little more to get it because you have to cut out a bigger section of your exhaust as where the H pipes are really easy to install.

h pipe sounds deeper, x pipe is a little more raspy.

yeah i would go with the H. it is said that the X actualy gives you a little more power but not much, you wouldnt even notice it. i curently have an H pipe sitting 3 feet from me that i am waiting to put in my chevelle, so you know my opinion.

Actually you don't lose any power when doing this. The factory mufflers do not scavenge enough to get excited about. The funny thing is that there are about there are about 15 guys locally that run only Mustangs and many of them have done this very thing. About a handfull of those run them hard at the track and trust me, if they were to lose some HP going down the track, they wouldn't have taken the mufflers out. And no, I haven't done this to any of my mufflers.

I prefer the H-pipes, my neighbor has some on his 5.0, and you can feel it in my house when he starts it up in the morning, not aggravating, but real deep.
