well for some unknown reason my last post "funniest story" got closed....but there was a lil disagreement about the crank or supercharger.... Me and my step-dad have a race car (78 camaro dirt) and i pretty much know what i heard....however, you guys could be right. Im about 80% sure it was the crank tho... oh yeah, and after i did that (see other post) it felt like the 2retarded 2download movie ( pretty, unworthy cars racing muscle cars) i dunno....seemed like it to me..well if u can telll me why it got closed please do so... bye

first off all, what do you think a crank sounds like? second, umm how do you hear a crank? i am well aware of what hi HP engines sounds like. also hi HP stroker engines. the only think you can hear is the cam or timing gears, well and headers and exhaust, but as far as the actualy engine its only the cam or timing gears. maybe thats what you heard. but the crank. i dont think so. no way to hear it.

It was an EvoVII, and the Eclipse was the third-generation. To my knowledge, there isn't a 3G GST. The 3Gs all have naturally aspirated V6 engines. The 2Gs (1Gs too?) had the FWD, turbocharged 4-cyl GST. I dislike those cars (3Gs), but the Evo is something I like (although I'm more of an STi guy myself).
I'm interested to know exactly what you heard.

it was... its hard to explain... Its where it has a high power, low rpm...
like a drag racer at the line... i didnt mean you could literally hear the crank, just each time the crank turned.... im pretty sure it wasnt a blower cause it wasnt like a whine sound, it was the engine... It was like it was idleing at 70 mph... oh well....thanks anyways...

Well...im sorry....but did you ever read what exactly those cars had equipped that help performance? they said after they were "tuned" alot of them were slower than stock... i had a mag article somewhere on that but i cant seem to find it.
Im not bashing the 3G or the Evo one bit, i am fans of them in fact, but to try and tell us that they are that fast when they are tuned "pretty?"

Im not saying those in the movie themselves were great... but it sounded like your statement was directed towards evo's and 3gs in general (I dont like 3gs ... I'd bash them all day long)

It was an EvoVII for crying out loud, they were showcasing the car for the USDM market before it was released in 2003. Everybody knows that...
And... what you heard was probably a gear driven camshaft. High winding metal sound.
Doesn't matter... you saw a fast car. Yay! And it sounded Bitchin... YAY!
Shall we move on?

oh my god..... it was like it was idleing at 70....hardly doing any work! not a blower or gears, so quit saying that.... what i was referring to was the way a dragster sounds at the line, not the blower, the motor. (the low idle...) anyways just end the f-ckin discussion about the blower....can someone tell me why my other post was closed?

Quit whinning like a little girl... if it sounded like it was idling at 70, it means he was running a huge cam with low gears.
My buddies '66 Chevelle did that, At 50mph it had cam overlap. That's what you get when you have a cam with like .700" lift and a shit load of duration in it, with stock freeway gears in the rear end.
Low Gear ratio + Built motor = Lumpy idle at moderate speeds.
Make sense? You didn't hear the crank... or blower or a gear drive. You just heard cam overlap cause of a shit load of duration.
Mystery solved.
