I've had both the replacement filter and the open air filter. Honestly, I can't tell the difference when it comes to performance. Its only looks.

Stop in http://www.knfilters.com/buy/knusa.htm and you'll find locations to get whichever you decide on.

K&N is just a filter that looks pretty cool, and has a lifetime warranty, but then again, so do a lot of filter manufacturers now a days, but you will not notice any performance change.....because there wont be one, lol.

Guys, note that he said cold air intake ... not just a regular filter ... has anyone done this yet? I want one of those but I'm not sure where I can find one that works and doesn't require cutting metal (cutting your car = yuk)
Any suggestions?
If not a cold-air, what about a short-air intake? Do those add HP over a regular filter or are they just for sound/looks? Don't want to rice out my car unless I am getting real performance out of it. Just want to give my SL more airflow than it's getting with the stock box.
Thx,
Mike

If you get an open element air filter for the VR4 the stock BOV will give off that sound??????

Yea, I just installed a K&N on Saturday. Took the car out and it does in-deed go swooosh. It's not loud but it can be heard with the windows down.

Can the people from the that are outside hear the swoosh or is the exhaust louder than the swoosh and take the noise away?

the stock bov already gives off that sound but you just cant hear it because of the factory box, when you add an open element intake you can hear it. I can hear it in my friends VR-4 if they get on it enough, you have to start building about 2 psi before you can year the swoosh give off though. I dont know how loud it is outside of the car, i can imagine that if someone is driving next to you they can hear it, but dont expect some neighborhood kids playing to hear it because you have a closed bov and not an open. Now if you want everyone to hear it, then get a bov. A friend of mine has a turboxs in his wrx, and i can hear his bov when i'm driving behind him.
