trailer harness causing backfeed, lights flash w/ break

The dealer told me they are having problems with aftermarket wiring harness' on 02 Frontiers. They told me my only option is a factory harness (150.00). My problem is back feed, but it worked fine for a year. When I shut the truck off and turn the lights off, I can pump the brakes and the dash lights will flash softly along with the marker lights. It has also affected my trailer lights (no left turn signal). The dealer has checked it twice and the only prob. is the aftermarket harness. Unplug it and everything works fine. Has anyone else had this problem and what can I do? Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Usually feedback is caused by the trailer not being grounded properly. Instead of current going to ground, it traces back through the hot leads of the other circuits. Try connecting a wire from your vehicle frame to the trailer frame. If that doesn't correct the problem, then I'll be as baffled as your dealer!

JB,
Please tell us if grounding the trailer corrected the problem. Thanks.

Hey JB,
We're still waiting to know if your problem was solved? Please give us some feedback that will be of interest AND of necessity to solve future problems with other driver's trailers.

Thanks

Hey guys, sorry about the delay..my computer powersupply blew up! Anyways, I took the truck back to Monroe where I originally had it done. The manager called drawtite, and it seems there is a problem with the Frontiers from time to time. He said about 1 in 20 have this problem(I'd guess it's a little higher %) They think it's in the way the frame is made/painted/connected. They're not really sure why it happens, but the fix is to run a ground from the harness directly to the battery. The guy from drawtite says it works, only time will tell. It's working so far! Thanks for the replys and sorry about the delay. Hey, does anyone know of driving lights, besides factory Nissan, that will fit in the round holes in the front of the 02 Frontier. As always, the dealer prices are unrealistic! Thanks

Interesting.....I'll have to remember that one. Now I'm wondering if your vehicle's tail lights have their own ground return wire? Anyway, thanks for the feedback.
