subwoofer confusion

I need new subs....are infinity subs any good...I now have some old mtx's in a qlogic bandpass box...I have a 2X300 amp...sounds to muddy...any advice on new subs?

Infinity subs have great SQ, but they lack a little in output. What's your budget? What are you looking for? Are the mtxs you have now loud enough for you?

sounds right too me. any sub in a prefab box that is not made to spec is going to sound muddy.

Then again, the MTX has a pretty high inductance to start off with. :(

Infinity is good. Just don't pour too much power though.

what is the differance between all the differant type of enclosres...like sealed, ported or bandpass....I want to be heard cumin down the street...so which one would be best? I would like to spend about 120$ or less for each sub...how do I match a woofer to my box...or should i get a differant enclosure all together? please please help...keep in mind I have a profile CA1200 amp 2 x 300 rms

I forgot to say..the mtx woofers i have...both 12's one is a terminator and i think the other one is a 3000.....I had 2 of them, but fried one when i was experimenting with bridging my amp....

yes, we know that, but you are playin 2 DIFFERENT subs in that bandpass box. First off bandpass sounds like crap, unless you spend a buttload of money on getting a good set of crossovers and use the same 2 subs and also tune it properly for those 2 subs, you will need to cut out a lot of frequencys too.

i do have an eltronic x-over, its got low mid and high outputs....for the sub outputs i have it set to the lowest freqency...I see what u mean about having 2 differant subs...what subs would be good in my box? like i said..only want to spend 120$ for each new sub....would I be better off with a differant type of enclouse for the amount of money i want to spend? if so what type of box and which subs to put in there??..somethings gotta be better than what i have now.....the way it is now sounds really crappy...i appriciate all your help with this problem..

i think that the two subs that wuold be perfect for you are adire shiva's, put them in a ported box, and save up for a new amp, because once you have a good amp to power those you will be heard from far away...

I would get a different enclosure sell the subs. When I said Crossovers, I meant crossovers, not crossover. You need to cut out so many random frequencys on bandpass boxes to make them sound even remotely right.

do you know anything about Cerwin vega woofers?...I used to have a pair in my first car and someone ripped them off.....Where can i check out those adire woofers?

I had some Cerwin vegas, turned the gain all the way down and still distorted with very little bass. I was mad.

look at the shivas, if not those check out the tempest, all you need is one of those and with a good box, but 2 shivas would be louder than one tempest...

I checked out the shiva's....are they home wooofers? I noticed they are dual voice coil 8 ohm each....would they sound better in my bandpass box or in a sealed box? are these woofers better than mtx, crwin vegas and infinitys? I know you said to put them in a ported box, but i have no clue how to tune one of those..........thanks again for all the feedback

They're dual purpose, they work exceptionally well in both home and car setups. They would sound the best in sealed or ported boxes, NOT bandpass.

A band pass box is a crossover. Why would you need to cut out alot of frequencys when the box is designed to do just that? I do agree for SQ though a bandpass box generally is designed for higher spl outputs at a given frequency range. Anything above or below that range can sound very bad. But a bandpass can be built with a wide frequency range and sound good for SQ but then it sort of defeats the point of building one.

if you put them in a sealed box they will do great...better than mtx cerwin vega and infinity...

How much power?

Those are large box subs, I would go closer to 1.5-2cf each

I have a Profile CA1200 amp.....wouldn't that be a bigger box?

So with that amp you'll be getting 300rms to each sub....with that amount of power I would do somewhere around 1.7cf each

do u know of a good site that would have that size box? also would you go with the shiva's or Cerwin vega v-max...I know I have asked this before...i just don't want to be dissapointerd when I hook them up....thanks for the feedback

Why the hell doesnt Elemental Designs or any of these good companies advertise? I also noticed their speakers look like shit but are apparently the best...the market is crazy these days.

IMO ed makes some of the best looking subs around, image dynamics subs aren't ugly, RE makes attractive subs....there are plenty of high quality subs that look good.

Ever wonder why the prices are so low? Ever think that maybe it's because they don't advertise?

Do you know how much a typical TV commercial costs these days? It's in the tens of thousands of dollars, just for a 30 sec slot in day time TV. If these online companies started advertising, the prices would skyrocket and they would become just like all the mainstream brands out there. Their products are good and cheap BECAUSE they don't advertise.

And Adire speakers are really the only ugly ones, I think the eD and RE subs are some of the best looking ones ever made.

The coaxs are the ones I was saying...Brahmas look damn good...And the one Haibaine has for his Avatar. Kinda funny though, its always the 6x9s that have all the fun stuff of them to make them look cool that are actually the shit sounding ones...Like that one red loving Japanese brand... :grinno:

thats exactly how it works, and its good for people to keep it that way, becuz u know if the xxx was sold on crutchfield, it would be like $5000 or some overpriced shit

Infinity Subs have good quality, but they have a problem with the voice coil after about a year. They dry rot to quick, i'd go with another sub. New box is what u need! check your budget though.

well...I've decided to go with the shiva's afterall....I'm puttin them in a R/T 1.75cf each sealed chamber...my only question is how to wire the dual voice coils on them.....remember that i have a Profile CA1200 amp also what freqency should i set my sub x-over at? ...I hope this is going to make me happy...lol

Wire each sub in parallel, and wire the subs individually to the 2 different channels on the amp.

Set the lowpass filter somewhere around 80, and then turn it down slowly while listening to music and see where you like it the best (slowly meaning over a period of a week or more).
