i had a fourth gear failure for bout three months after i replaced my clutch. i always thought the mechanics did a bad job and i needed a new transmission. Yesterday i was messin with the shift knob and it went into fourth. i asked my friends and they said i should jus get a new shift knob. How do i go about it and which ones should i be lookin into?

Get a Helmes/Haynes/Chilton manual first.
A shift knob is just a pretty thing on top of the shifter. It is not responsible for your gear failure, and the mechanics may still be.
How exactly are you having this fourth gear failure? are you:
a. unable to ever shift into 4th, car off shifting for fun, or car driving
b. unable to shift into 4th at high rpm's
c. unable to shift into 4th at low rpm's
d. sometimes it shifts, sometimes it doesn't
e. it grinds for a second but goes in
e. you have recently installed an aftermarket quick shifter and now it misshifts all the time
what did the mechanics replace? just the clutch? flywheel? shift linkage? get a list.
unfortunately, there is a lot that could be wrong here, without knowing the whole situation, it is difficult to assess the situation. lil more info would be a great help
