stripped locknut

Aloha! got a stripped nutlock and fought with it all day yesterday. bought two new keys (insert kind) different sizes both bigger, Everytime someone would come by to help, the nutlock would get bigger and bigger and now its warped too... The hole were the stud sticks out is just a tad bit bigger than the the locknut itself. So I took it down to Lex brodies to try and sweet talk a guy to help me( Yes I am a girl ). The guy said he would have to drill the stud and break it off to get the nut off( sorry sounds like a porn site ). After that then restud it all at the great price of $79 an hour! Any Ideas? I bought a chisel today and am going to try to bend it back so its not as warped, then try and jam the chisel in there and try to turn it... good idea? not? help!!! Mahalo, Becky. Do you have custom or nice wheels? If you are worried about scratching them.I would take it to a shop and not the one that is charging you $79hr. It shouldnt even take an hour. 30-50 an hour is about the going rate almost anywhere.My local dealer isnt even that high. Do you have plenty of tools to work with?If so I may be able to help you. The same thing happened to me last summer. I took an allen wrench bigger than the hole on the lock nut and cut the bend off. I took the long end and grinded the tip kinda to a point. I grinded it making a smaller size hex for grip. Take the oposite end and find a socket to fit it. Now hammer the allen into the lug till it is good and tight.(oh yea) now take the socket and ratchet slide it on the end and turn. Keep the turn steady. I tried the drill thing but had the wrong bits. And it was sunday so the stores were closed. I had to come up with something. Good luck

I see you are in Hawaii, Pigtails. If auto repair is as expensive as - I gather - everything else there, 79 bucks is probably a good deal!

thanks for you guys help. My rims cost about 1200. with tires (on the inexpensive side) , they dont have any scratches so far and I've had them for about a year and a half. So I will try my hardest not to damage them, I don't like to give up either so I will give it a go this weekend, let you guys know! Mahalo, Becky

hey pigtails, you should ask WMR, those guys seem like they are always willing to help when I go in there, but like you said, got to do your own work on your own machine, makes you feel better after you completed the job, maybe after a few beers also!!! ALOHA

I had run into this same problem years ago my solution was to weld a nut on as large as possible...get a 3/4 socket and get it right off...the welding does 2 things it gets the metal hot so the nut can be removed easier and it gives you a good place to get a socket onto...From the sounds of it you may be better off getting a mechanic to help you.. but you may suggest this to the mechanic to save time and effort..
Why do people put locknuts on any way like its gonna keep someone from stealing your wheels.. I mean if they want them they are just gonna break your lugs off with a sledge hammer or chisel anyway right..
