I Want a Silverado

Hey.. I guess I'm still relatively new around here. I'm lookin' to try to get a newer vehicle. I have a '95 Taurus now... blah. It's not really mine, so I can't sell it. Anyways.. I want a Silverado. '99 was the body style change, was it not? Regular cab and short bed would be nice, and so would the 5.3L. So.. um.. I can't afford one with "low" miles, so.. I was wondering how well these things hold up when they get toward, but not quite to, 100,000 miles... So, what do ya guys say?

99 was the year they started the new body style. I have 99 that I bought used with 9000 miles on it. I now have 90,000 on it and I've been really happy with it. I had a one problem with it when I first bought it and it was the master cylinder. Pretty easy fix, except the dealer didn't have a clue on these new truck. Finally got it worked out and it has been problem free since. If you do buy one, make sure you listen to the engine at startup. Some vehicles have a knocking sound when they are cold. Apprently it is a problem with pistons not fitting correctly in the cylinder. Everybody calls it piston slap. If the vehicle you are looking at sounds like a diesel when it is first started, I wouldn't buy it...

I have 80,000 on my 99' and I love it, My truck had the usual problems, gas gauge, ABS etc.. but with the help here and access to the right tools its an easy fix. My friends own Dodges and Fords (which they bought for the higher factory ground clearance..haha) and they all comment on how much better my truck drives and handles and how the interior is designed better. Good Luck.

Have 01 & 02 Suburbans and Tahoes with the 5.3 4WD drivetrain at work. Some are over 100,000 miles and still running strong. Just the usual wear and tear items. Had Ford Expeditions but the suspensions on them made you feel like you were on a roller coaster! Like anything else, there's bound to be a few lemons out there, but overall, this class of new Chevys can't be beat!
