Do you think this could work?

Now I have a 97 Eclipse and instead of building it up for speed besides the basics because im only 17 and dont feel the need to go fast so early..(intake,exhaust,bov), i eventually wanted to build it up as a show car. My question is if anyone knows if a Skyline R34 tail light conversion along with a type of body kit custom molded could work. Granted this probably doesnt make much sense but im just throwing ideas out in the open so let me know what you guys think of this idea and if possible to get it to work without looking incredibably ugly.

fo shizze' haha..
well if you look at cardomain, there are alot of eclipse with sky taillights ;) so it has been done before. Im pretty sure you can do anything with ur ride if you have the money and time for it, and if not then its going to be ugly as you say :)

do you have any links to those eclipses, i tried checking but all i could find were supra tails, s2000, and a few rx-7 tails

well the r33 and r32 would be easier than r34...the r34 are definatly the tightest looking...in my opinion...if your going to spend the money to do a conversion...you should do it on a different car.. because the r34s are more of a squared body type lights so just a few things to think about

I can't believe anyone who spends 10 grand on their slow car has the right perception of the value of money. Show cars are slow cars.
There is no way to have a nice looking car without spending the dough. It's all custom, and don't think that you are going to be able to do much of it. If you decide to spend that much, try to take care of it.

what about the taillight covers? they look nice and are kinda like the round skyline lights. and a lot cheaper start for a 17 yr old dude ;)

conversions aren't for the faint of heart. The shop is currently in the process of finishing up a supra conversion on a civic hatch. it's turning out really nice!! the supra conversion is really popular (I will be doung it again once I am happy with the GO part of my ride, along with the s15's) I do love speed... but there is just somethin about having a hot ride!
The R34 conversion is big... and looks a little on the goofy side for a rounded car like the eclipse. I would suggest waiting for something else. start with the covers. they are rare and give a nice look. ashah has a bunch of picks posted from his, and they look really good.
If you want to do the complete conversion you are looking to pay 800+ dollars plus the price of the tails. so about a grand for little round lights. and the covers will cost you about 150 to get painted and put on.
if you're 17, and you aren't looking to make a show car (or a shop car like me) then don't even think about conversions. they are too pricey and time consuming for someone (esp a 17 yr old) to be doing if you are only looking for something "cool"
If you do plan to make it a show car, then it may be worth it. but at 17, you'll wreck the car before you can make it into anything most likely. sorry..
IMO, I would save your money. just keep saving and do the little things first. Rims, drop, interior, and engine stuff. then once you've tackled all that and have a substantial amount of money saved, go after the major body work. it takes about a week to ten days to do a conversion. just because everything shrinks with time. so you have to go slowly. or it will crack when it's painted and look like shit.
If you really want to go with a show car, and an r34 swap. then do it all skyline style. it will be original and nice looking. Get the r34 kit (looks really good) and do the swap. then you will have a killer show and go ride.
Sorry for the long ass post. but this is the only thing I"m truly knowledgeable on.. so I post my ass off about it.

And the only reason why i want to make my car all show is to keep me from going that fast granted its already a fast car but i've had many of my friends get into car accidents and lose their licenses because of the speed factor and i dont want that to happen so to help the process ill just make my car look nice so i know not to do anything stupid and wreck it...whether anyone likes the fact of this idea or not i truly dont care much because its my car i work for what i do and if i like it then thats all i care about so if you dont agree with what im doing then please dont tell me because it will have absolutely no affect on my decision

Thanks ill deffinately let you know about what I need, the only thing i want from a kit is all urethane, none of that fiberglass stuff that breaks easily. Also do you guys do body work with paint and molding and what not or is it just a parts store?
Import2nr99
05-07-2004, 10:58 PM
we do everything. body work, including conversions and kit installs, fiberglass interiors, shaving and molding. suspension, lowering springs, coilovers, sway bars, you name it. plus custom stereo. we can also order you just about any damn thing you can think of. a poly kit will run you a little bit more than a glass kit, but it's worth it. I would suggest a urethane front, and glass everything else. you very rarely see people cracking skirts and rear bumpers.

If you were going to do the skyline conversion on any eclipse it would look best on the 3g. hell they are pretty close to them stock. just more rounded. Like I said in my previous post, conversions are not for the person on a budget. or if you aren't turnin it into a show car. think long and hard. it's ok to want something... but before you drop a grand into taillights... you might want to evaluate what you're looking to do with the car... Jut my 2 cents

if you want a cool headlight conversion do the sylvia conversion.
Import2nr99

The sylvia conversion is hot as hell. Mine will be completed in the semi near future. I'll post pics and stuff when that happens. as of now I'm in the process of making it fast enough to backup the looks it will have. so when thats done, it'll be body work time.

Custom work is a learning experience that could be good for you but what sucks is that the more custom you do the less fun you can have because you might break something.

Why on earth would you want r34 tails on a gd eclipse? Keep it oem man, drop it and maybe a body kit... slap some 5 zigen pro-n1's on that thing and you'll be fine, do it right... don't be gay.

yeah the rx-7 tails dont fit at all.. i seen one with rsx tails that didnt look bad.. but the back end is too rounded and they look to square... supra tails are overdone.. id rather see someone come up with there own tails.. be completly origional istead of swapping off another car..

Ross's shop is in bloomsburg. Feel free to come on up. he's not too good with turbo's though. More of a body and suspension kind of guy. it's a small place, but for this area, it's all we got. so it works. where in harrisburg are you? I got transferred to Ft indiantown Gap, so when I'm down there we'll have to hook up or somethin. take the 'clipse's for a run or two.
Oh and to answer everyone's question about conversion prices... it's average a grand plus the price of the lights. it takes a lot to do it. unless you're doing supra tails on an eclipse. which is just a LOT of fiberglass work. but could probably be done yourself with some time and a little glass knowledge.
