Is it possible that a broken abs speed sensor could affect the shiftability of the tranny? Also, how is the TCM reset to clear the limp in mode? Can a shadetree mechanic reset it?

My son in law is in the same boat his 94 LHS @175,000?
miles seems to be stuck in the limp mode ?, it won't come out of second gear and has no reverse.
Did you ever find a solution for yours ?.
