Hi, I am 16 and just got my 96 gs...unfortunatly I could not get a turbo because of the parents :banghead: ... it's got 90,000 miles on it and I was just thinking of which would be a better investment and want you guys to put some opinions... Should I put money into this car like turbo kit and other ugrades and good stuff like that or should I save the money and save up for a different TURBOED car...I was thinking of a TT supra... honda s2000...WRX....Lancer EVO...3000gt....or even a GSX or GST... this however would take quite a while and I am an impatient person....anyways... you guys are more experienced so thanks for your input

your gonna buy a WRX? TT supra?? what are you on crack? or do you just have that much of money?
or why not sell the RS and get a GST?

Oh yeah and I forgot to mention a couple other things that are an option...Just swap the motor with a turbo one....RX 7...240sx and swap that motor with either a silvia or skyline engine... forgot about those..

no that's why I said what is a better investment...it will take me about 2-6 years of saving depending on which car I choose to go with..

and yes everyone...I know the s2000 isn't turboed but I still kind of like it

Pff, buy a lowrider lol
those are some random cars man lol
have you check on the thread that RST made about turboing your RS? read it and then think about it if you really got the time and money to turbo your baby, and if not just sell it and buy a GST or a GSX ;)

Holy crap kid, you need to get a drives lisense before you can get the "pimp car" yeah and you cant just go putting random engines in random cars. You got sensors and computers to work with. It sounds like you should keep with that car, the GS, it has a very well designed 420A chyrsler built engine in it, get a Hahn trubo chager and that should get you started in the import scene. I'm not tryin to bash you, everyone starts from some where, but try not to get too ahead of your self.

well yeah I completely agree with you....I know it is going to take quite some...I'm not getting ahead of myself I am just planning ahead that's all...and by the way.. just incase you didn't know.. the silvia engine and skyline engine pretty much just bolt right in to the 240sx...but anyways...

What is a better investment? Cars are definetly not an investment, they will suck your money faster than a girlfriend. If you are looking for an investment buy some real estate if you are looking for a fast or cool lookin ride, expect to loose money.

But you dont have a 240sx, you have a eclipse gs, so it doesnt matter if the sr20det can bolt into the 240's. It takes money to do engine swaps like that. If your going to spend that much money, just fix up your gs.
And if you did get a sr20det or rb26dett what would you do if you get some kind of engine problem, and you need parts. Its hard to get parts for those types of engines. Inless you are like me, since i go back to Japan every summer.http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/images/smilies/tongue.gif

haha good deal...yeah I don't think I would go with the sr20 because it is a 4 cylinder...if I'm going to do an engine swap I think I would do it with either a rb25 or the 26 because those are 6 cylinders and have more potential..that's why I was thinking it would be better to either save up for the TT supra or save up to do this motor swap in the 240
Killa_DSM
05-07-2004, 12:20 AM
Wait i thought the sr20 was a 6. Im pritty sure it is???
Oo_skyline_oO
05-07-2004, 12:27 AM
no it's not...trust me I've done thorough research...not sure if I spelled thorough correctly...but yeah...the sr20 is a 4

haha it's all good...that's what these forums are for! haha but yeah anyways...what do you think..I guess I have pretty much decided on my LOOONNGGG term plan...either the TT supra or the 240 engine swap..just because they have more potential...I would think TT supra just because it would not need an engine swap and parts would be easier to get so yeah but what do you think?
Killa_DSM
05-07-2004, 12:42 AM
Yea, i would go with the supra, but you should still mod your car a little. Just do the little things to increase hp.
Oo_skyline_oO
05-07-2004, 12:53 AM
haha...we are talking in 2 different threads...but anyways..back on the subject...like I said in your thread...I am doing the exhaust sytem..maybe intake...headers maybe...you know...little things but other than that I think I am just going to save up for the supra

I dunno, iI've heard that turbocharging a stock NT 4G63 RS/GS produces more HP to the wheels than the stock Turbo systems...Hahn Racecraft esp...any comments on that?

I wouldnt mess with a 240 engine swap, there is a performance shop here in minnesota and all they deal with is 240s (I absolutley love eclipses especially the 2g). But if I was in your shoes and you are looking at lots of different cars that are way out of your budget I would just buy a 240 (they are rear wheel drive and have huge potential) or trow a hahn on your n/t. I want a supra to but in reality I couldnt afford it...where do you live? If you do decide to go with an engine swap for whatever reason I know a place in Minnesota that does an amazing job (so if you cant do the swap yourself, dont let some kid that "thinks" he can do it or it will end up costing you thousands after you start blowing shit ex: axels!! haha

Non turbo engines are the 420a. 4g63 is on gst's and gsx's.
For skyline: If I were you then I would keep the gs until you think you can drive really well. Don't get a supra when you have the money but when you are confident enough to drive it. Getting behind the wheel of a twin turbo could spell trouble for an inexperienced driver.

well yeah but by the time I have saved up the money to buy my next car I will have much more experience........and plus I know I can handle a single turbo because I have driven a gst before but I know twin turbo is a whole nother story...but anyways...I believe that an EVO might be the best way to go because it is a single turbo and a lot easier to find with lower milage and better condition...

why on earth are you buying a 240sx just to swap it with the inline 6 motor? the srdet20 can produce plenty of horsepower. the 240sx is a decent car and doesnt need more than like 5-600 hp which u can get out of the 4 banger. one of the main aspects of the silvia is its balance and if u go puttin a skyline engine in it...it wont exactly be much of a silvia.

Some 1g cars have a n/a 4g63. Anyway, skyline, you have a GS which has the 4g64. The 4g64 has been used as a block for many turbo eclipse's stroker blocks. So, what I mean is you should by an old 1g, rebuild the head and do a head swap on your 4g64 and guess what you have a 2.4l stroker engine. Oh yeah, you might want to watch the boost on that stock engine that. later.

He doesn't have a 4g64. He has a 420a. The 2.4 4g64 is in the spyders.

Sorry my fault. I thought you had the 4g64. Now that you have the 420a, unless you're willing to spend a LOT of money building it up, I would look into selling the GS and buying a 1g AWD. Shpyder did you say that spyder in your sig. or whatever that is was a nonturbo? Did you turbo it, because I see a rather large front mount under that bumper.

i think you need to figure out how you are going to make the $$, then do that and go and make it, then after you have made it [and you must figure in the chick/electronics factor, cuz we all know that our hard earned $$ gets detered by chicks and electronics ;) ] then after all of that, decide what will be the most important to you. and it is an investment of sorts because you are investing in your happiness, which, the last time i checked, is a very good investment indeed :)
