I have a 2000 Honda Civic EX. I took my car to Hi-fi buys and got some boston acoustic 6.5s in the door with separate tweeters in the door for the front 6x9s with built in tweeters in the back. i also got and eclipse cd player and a jl audio 300/4 amp. My tweeter in my right door (the left door sounds fine) keeps clipping and after a while it sounds blown but if a let it rest it sounds good when i turn it back on for a while but then it happens again. so i took it back and they changed the crossover and the tweeter. but now it is doing it again. and i noticed that the 6.5 is doing it too. they say there is nothing wrong with the wires but they dont know what it is. they think it mite be the amp or the cd player. if theres anyone who knows about this then please tell me bout this and email me if possible. email- [email protected]

I had a similar problem w/a 1998 EX coupe on and off after the first year I had the car (sad). I had an outfit called Myer Emco replace the changer about a year ago and the channel returned (By the way...I only lost the channel when I played tunes through the CD changer- the radio ALWAYS played all channels fine.
There is some defect w/the alarm-radio-changer combination that is making my alarm go nuts. I can't even use it. I pulled all 3 security fuses and put 2 back, but if I put in the 3rd the alarm will sound off. Irritating. Dealer has another Civic like it but has no clue how to fix it. This may not address your problem but it was similar so I figured I try and save you some heart ache (if possible).

I'd have to say that it's the amp but without looking at it and metering things, I do not know. Your shop should have checked the amp out first before anything else. There's no way a speaker could do what you stated. It sounds like either the amp or stereo is getting too warm and shutting down.

What types of tweeters are they? Depending on the type, perhaps the one you have cant handle the amp? I've learned from experience that you'd want Tweeters that are ferrofluid driven, supposdly handles better and lasts longer.

Sorry but he stated that he's got the Boston Acustic componet set. It has separate mid bass and tweets with an external crossover. It's all a matched set.

Sounds like either the amp heating up or a bad ground.

Not to sound arguementive but if it was a bad ground all of the speakers would clip. Do you beat your speakers at high volumes. Maybe you are beating them to hard. You should be able to crank it up but there is a limit and your speakers will show it. My advice would be to take it back like ponchonutty said. I would complain and act like a friggn jerk till they fix it. Hell Im sure you payed a alot for boston and JL equipment. Get in there ass and tell them to get it right.

thanks for all of yalls help so far. ok. i took my car back to hi-fi and they tested everything and finally figured out that it was the amp my channel for my rear left speaker had gone out (it had quit workin after i started this thread) and the channel for my right side was goin bad. so they replaced it and everything was workin fine. but today i noticed that my right front tweeter either is really quiet or it just doesnt work sometimes at all. im guessing that there could be a bad ground but im not completely sure about it. i dont really know that much about the stereo systems. so if yall could help me out at all that would be great. thanks again for all of your help.
