leaking heater control valve...

I think that is what you would call it. This is the plastic vaccuum operated valve with 4 heater hose connections on it. It has a small metal rod coming out the back side of it, and the coolant is seeping out there, leaving a nice puddle wherever I go.

Anyone replace this before? I don't think I have ever heard of anyone having problems with this, until my Dad mentioned his went out about 3 weeks ago in the 93 GMC van I sold him. Is this contagious, or does it run in the family! :D

Just wondering what this little gem will cost. At least it isn't a difficult job.

Part #12380318. Looks like it will be $22 at the local GMC dealer. GMpartsdirect.com is $11, but tack on that $8 s&h and you get $19, and then you wait... It isn't worth that wait for me, need to stop the leaking asap. Will pick-up today and replace it tomorrow. Hopefully won't loose to much coolant, will try clamping of the hoses with some flat bladed clamps while performing the surgery! :D

i replaced mine on sunday before i went to mother's day brunch. it took all of 15 minutes and cost me $13.99 at autozone. i spent an extra $2.50 to buy (4) new hose clamps. it took me more time to remove my air filter housing then the install of the new valve.

Wow, never thought about that there would be an aftermarket one available, looked kind of specialized. Still haven't replaced mine, stopped leaking for now! :D Patriot_youth, did you end up losing a lot of coolant in the process?

I'm sure it will start again, so I'll replace sometime in the next week. I ended up getting it at the local GMC dealer, where the parts guy recognized me as a regular customer. Gave it to me for $15.04 without me even asking for a discount. I prefer to give them the business wherever possible, and they usually return the favor...
