I have a '95 eclipse rs, 2.0 DOHC, and a rod has started knocking!!! This motor has alot of miles on it and i was wondering, do you think it would be best or cheaper to go ahead and fix the motor thats in the car now or look for another motor to put in it. Also, if you recommend a new motor where could i go to get a good cheap one? Thanx for the help.

Your best bet would be to just go and buy another one. Especially it it has really high miles. I had the same exact problem. I have the same year car. I found an engine from a 98 with only 50k and I paid 600 for it. Make sure you keep your old engine. Because if the wiring on the new engine is cut (like mine was) then none of your sensors are going to match up well some will but some wont so you will need to take your old sensors off to match up with the wiring.

If you decide to change with a new engine and are going to do the work yourself let me know I will have alot of helpful info. I just did the same shyt myself less then a month ago.

Oh and check the local salvage yards. I actually had to drive about 2 hours to pick my engine up. but well worth the money I saved.

Does a '98 have the same motor mounts as a '95? And if so, what year eclipse motors will fit in the '95?

Anything from a 95-98 will fit in there with no problem. As long as its the 420A you shouldnt have any problem.

This is what you need to do to locate one

1-Go on www.Anywho.com
2-Select the category button
3-Put in your state
4-Put in auto salvage
5-Get some coffee
6-Take an hour or so and just call up everyone.

Thats What I did. It took a while but it worked.

Are there diiferent style engines that were made for this car, or is there just this one and the motor w/turbo?

Basically if you have a 2g and its non turbo you have a 420a. The trubo motor is the 4g63.

Any 420a and you should be good to go.

The engine in the Neon and Eclipse is both a 420a, but its just a little different. The engine is backwards exhaust manifold on the firewall side.

Try to do a compression test before you buy it.
