89 cherokee auto trans won't shift!

I have to use the shifter manually to change gears!

My windshield wiper switch I thought went bad so I pulled the column apart to get at it...in the process I cut the harness that goes from the cruise control stalk since cruise control has never worked anyway.

After I put the thing back together and put it in D I found I only had the gear that the shifter was on...it's not auto any more!

I did rewire the cruise control harness but still nothing...any ideas at all what I can do to correct this?

ima help ya out ..... if your still having problems... it's your NSS. You need to clean it ....!!!!!!!!!

I had a simular problem with a 1987 Wagoneer/cherokee not shifting.
The problem was the ground wire to the Engine was broken, near the dip-stick. The Transmission solenoids and the Trans Computer behind the glove box were without ground, and would not function
