96 engine replacement

I have a 96 Explorer with the 4.0L V6 pushrod. The engine has 200K miles and is in bad shape. I am on a tight budget, but I need to replace the engine. I have found used engines with approx. 100000 miles or less at various salvage yards. Can anyone tell me what I am in for if I try to pull my engine and plug in the replacement. Can I do all the work myself? Is this a relatively easy process? Is this a viable solution? Thanks in advance.

no problem , if you are a self-motivated person. but be sure to have someone help you in moving heavy parts around. sure hope you are equiped with some tools.

Replacing and/or rebuilding an engine is a big job but it can easily be done by the home mechanic. I am Rebuilding my 1996 4.0 L Pushrod V6 with 150000 miles and I have noticed that it it just a matter of disconnecting a few things and replacing somethings. The hardest part is hoisting the engine out of the car because it requires an engine hoist. Other than that I don't see why the home mechanic can't do it.

Just clear your schedule for about a week, it takes a long time.
