I have a 2002 TB, and upon starting the truck, it idles at about 1400rpm's for about 45 seconds and then slows down to about 1000rpm. Is this normal? Also, sometimes the truck sounds as if it is really idling high while I am driving. It sounds as if I were riding the clutch (i don't have one). After a while, it feels like the whole truck just quiets down and runs normally. has anyone experienced this before? I mentioned it to my dealership and the guy said it was the hydrolic clutch???

Yes, the speeds you are talking about is normal. There is a computer update for the fan clutch to keep it from engaging during a cold start.

Repalace Your Idle Speed Adjustment Valve, But Only After You Check For Vacume Leaks

Thanks for the tips. I'll have the dealership look into it.

I may hava a similar problem, but don't know a whole lot about my 02' TB. I just noticed that the car sounds loud, like im revving the engine up or the fan is working too hard. I don't drive the car for more than 4 miles at a time though...does anyone know if this noise will go away? If i take it to the dealer what should I tell them to look for. I live in LA so its not cold when i start the car in the morning....

I had the same problem and it was the clutch fan. It is covered under warranty if the vehicle still qualifies and they had to replace mine. I heard there was a computer fix for it but I don't know. I would have to get up to 40mph for the fan to dis-engage.
