ABS light and gas gauge issues on my 98 Rodeo

Our 98 Rodeo has been fairly reliable, but now that it is hitting 68K, a few anomalies are cropping up.

First, my gas gauge has gone hinky. It will register full, then empty, then halfway, all in the matter of a few seconds. This problem first happened when the truck was fairly new, and the sensor was replaced. Now they say the sensor is bad and it will cost $300 to fix??

Second, my ABS light came on last night. I tried the stuff in the manual, didn't stop it. I did have the recall done on the truck last June. What should I check before I take it into the dealer to look at?

I rely on this car, as it is the one that has the only car sears our special needs twins fit in. It has to be reliable and safe for us.

(did i mention I am unemployed and I need these headaches like I need another bill collector??)

Sigh...thanks in advance for any advice/help.

The fuel sending unit is bad. 36 dollar but, but you have to drop the tank to replace it. Do you need to replace it? Nope, you can use your trip odomitor; once you hit 250miles fill your tank up.

The ABS, could be a burnt out fuse. Many folks have yanked the fues because they do not like the sensitive ABS system.

So you really do not have to spend any money at the moment if you don't want to.

Thanks Ryan...I will have my husband check the fuse when he gets home (never had this before, so hoping it IS just a fuse). And I have already been using the odometer trick to avoid fixing the gas sensor, I was just wondering if the estimate ($300!) was right for fixing it (eventually). Not sure what the rate/effort is for "dropping the tank" to put in a $36 part. (i should have been an auto mechanic :-)
