I have a 2000 3500 that won't start after it's been running for about
30 minutes. I'm getting the Security light after I cut it off then try to
restart it. I've been have this problem since the outside temp warmed up here in the south.
What is getting hot that is making the passlock system activate?
After about 30 mintues something or some gremlin has decided that
the truck can start again, and runs fine until you cut it off and try to
restart it.
As soon as I can figure out what's wrong with this truck/affliction it's for sale.
What do I replace first?

The loose nut behind the wheel? :lol2:
Sorry, but it was a natural! :naughty:
I haven't had any trouble with a passloc system so I can't help. I am only a smart*ss!

There is a comedian in every bunch :evillol:
First thing is to perform a little diagnostics and find out what if the Passlock fault is setting a code in the PCM,BCM or EVO/Passlock module.
There is a GM Technical bulletin concerning some wiring issues with the Passlock system #01-08-56-004A

Thanks for taking the time to reply!
The truck has been doing this since I owned it, and
it had 28k on it. I took it to the local dealer three times with no luck. They checked for codes but there were not any. They replaced some burned wiring and said that was probably the fix. However, the problem continues. In the last month
the "Security" light has started to appear, that's what led me to believe it was related to the Passlock. As long as the truck is running or its cold outside I don't have any trouble with it. So far I've spent about $600 on it with no results. I'm banging my head on the steering wheel.

I had the same problem and was resolved immediately by the Customer Service Rep (bless his soul) at my local GMC dealer ('98 Yukon with 67K miles) - the starter motor! I thanked him and immediately headed for my local parts store.
Even though the starter motor worked fine when cool, when it gets hot the electrical resistance goes way up which prevents it from working. I went out and replaced it (Monument Auto Parts) and it resolved the probelm!

Does your truck have any other security system besides passlock ?? Factory or aftermarket ?? I have seen problems with alarm systems cause the problem you are having.

Yeah well gary moore's problem may be completely different than hotdog's. Dog, does your light flash on the dash when this condition occurs? Does it ever come on when driving down the road?
See, this newer Passlock system (all of them from #1, 2, and 3) have shown many problems. Mainly is the no start condition. If the Passlock system is at fault or someone is trying to hotwire it, it will let the vehicle start then stall out within 3 seconds. Then if you try to restart, it will turn over but won't fire. If you repeatedly try to start it when this happens, it can lock you out for an extended amount of time even if everything is now OK.
I'd assume gary m's problem was that his truck wasn't turning over at all while this other problem still lets the vehicle turn over???
