It is similar to the lightning strike input ratings on amplifiers.

A cold air intake will easily add 10hp under these conditions:

1-your stock filter has never been cleaned or replaced
2-the stock filter was still intact
3-you drove on gravel roads in an extremely humid environment exclusivly for the last 100k miles
4-while installing the CAI you bump the distributor to full advance by accident

What's really amazing is that this thing in the JC Whitney catalog (where cheap is king) is FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS!
