Hello, i was checking these 2 motors out. which would be better to turbo? should i get a 2000 civic and LS/VTEC it or should i just get a 2000 civic Si with the b16a2 and turbo it?i want to be running high lbs of boost approx 15....couldnt i just but the ls and tune it to run 15lbs of boost? and what would i expect to run in the 1/4 mile with 15 lbs of boost sry i didnt explain right but i was in a hry thx.

GO LS VTEC make sure you do it right though

Why do you want to run 15lbs of boost? To sound cool telling people you're running 15lbs of boost? Do a little more research on boost, and then ask some real questions, because this one has no answers.

You cannot run 15 lb of boost on stock internals on either of those motors. A ls motor can handle 12 lb of boost on stock internals Well Tuned. the b16 cant handle as much due to high compression. If you want to run 15 on the b16 you are going to have to build the bottom. My suggestion is do an ls/vtec, then turbo that. The ls/vtec can handle more boost than the b16, however it will not handle 15psi. If you run that kind of boost you will blow your motor quick! So if you want my opinion if you have the money build the bottom of the ls/vtec then turbo it, and if you built it right you will be able to handle the 15psi. If you don't have the money, just don't run as much boost. Go like 10psi, or if you get the b16 only like 8psi tops, well tuned.

Besides that 300hp is more than enough to put a car in the 11's, and on 1.8 300+Hp can be made on stock internals and at only 10psi with proper tuning. Here's my suggestion, not LSvtec, but use a GSR longblock instead, get a Skunk2 or Edelbrock IM, an ITR/CTR/B16A tranny, and the right kit, tune with Hondata, and spend money on suspension. Really take a GOOD look at how your are going to put the power to the ground.

you cannot make 300hp with only 10psi for one. and the GSR motor can only handle 8psi on stock internals well tunded. On stock internals B series honda motors should only run about 50% more power than stock. If you go above that, the motor will not last long at all. I would agree with going with the GSR motor, but it will cost more than going the other 2 routs but there is the most potential with a GSR motor if you have lots of money. I would still go ls/vtec becasue you can run 10-12psi of boost on the ls bottom w/o building, that with the vtec head will be faster than a gsr with 8psi. But still not 300hp. If you want that kind of power you will definetly be needing to build the bottom.

i disagree, 10lbs with a kick ass tune can get you in the 3 spot ..not much over, but 3 none the less

It would be very unwise to run 10 psi on a vtec motor without doing block work. Ya you could do it, but your shit would blow in no time, even with a kick ass tune. And even with the 10psi and a kick ass tune your car will not be putting out 300 horse power at the weels. maybe at the crank, but very unlikely. And even if you did get the car into the 300hp range, if your car does'nt have new pistons and rods, etc it wont last longer than a couple of months, if it is ran hard at all. Another thing 300hp would not get a si into the 11's. 12's would be pushing it, but might be possible.

Do you really want to argue with that? I didn't post it because I thought it would be funny, I posted it because it is a FACT, for one. I think you need to get out more, or i you like simply email Import Builders and ask Jeff what he can get out of a stock GSR on boost.
Then we got another one on a comepletely stock GSR longblock with over 100k miles on it boosting 10 PSI making 330+ WHP with our turbo kit on it, running 11's.
for 2+ YEARS now! haha

That is pretty damn amazing. I have never herd of a stock Gsr motor with 10lbs running 11's I guess I am wrong. But I still would not advise running more than 8 psi on the stock block. Your friend is a mechanic, and can probably fix problems a little better than your average joe blow who wants to put a turbo on his car. I have herd it over and over again that you should never run more than 8psi on a stock gsr. This guy obvously is quite good at tuning thats pretty cool. but would you honestly reccomend boosting 10lb like that for just an average person, in a daily driven car? None the less, I am wrong about many of my statments, all aoplogies  Just out of curiousity, how gutted is the car. Does he have that thing stripped down bare.

With a nice big intercooler, and a good EMS, and a solid tuning from someone that knows what they are doing? Sure, For Joe Blow in the sticks that just bought a Full Race kit and has never boosted car and no dyno for a hundred miles, no.

ya, see that would be where I live. I live 2 hours probably 3 hours from the neerest good honda tuner. It's great here, but shitty at the same time. And I am assuming that this kid probably has never boosted a car before, so it probably wouldn't be that great of an idea for him to be running that much.

Man I really feel like a dumb ass. I just went on ebay, and there is a gsr for sale, that was dyno tuned to 12psi, and puttion out 329whp, and 249 ft lb. I guess I was wrong about how much boost the stock block on a gsr could handle. Learn something daily here. To bad I had to make an ass of myself in the process.
