I was wondering if anyone has done this conversion yet, and have any pointers on it. I found the conversion kit in california for 1500.00 (including wire harness) Iam trying to locate a 3.4 engine that had a 5 speed bolted to it with low miles. hopefully plan to start the project in august or when I find a motor. Does any one the difference between a generation 1 vs. generation 2 type supercharger for the 3.4L? which is better?

thanks anyone!!

The 1st generation supercharger kit uses an Eaton M-62 3rd Generation supercharger. It has a 62 cubic inch displacement. The first design kits had a separate plenum that the supercharger was bolted to. The plenum also doubles as the mounting for the supercharger.

The 2nd generation supercharger kit uses a single casting for the supercharger housing and plenum. It is based on the newer 4th generation Eaton supercharger. It differs from the 3rd generation Eaton unit mostly in the bypass valve. In the 4th generation Eaton, the supercharger body has the bypass valve cast into the supercharger body where on the 3rd generation Eaton it was a separate part that had to be plumbed into the works some how. This saves space and allows a more compact installation so it can be fitted to more applications. Magnuson (the manufacturer of the TRD supercharger) has made the supercharger body, bypass valve, and plenum all one casting to make for a very compact installation.

The 2nd generation TRD unit is still an Eaton M-62, 62 cubic inch supercharger. The newer one is easier to install, saving on installation time and confusion.

If you haven't already, read the information in the link. He has solved alot of potential problems associated with installation of a supercharger.

The intake is higher on a 3.4, so you'll need to install either a body lift or a hood scoop.
