Hey, I have to tell you all out there that after purchasing a Hypertech programmer, that I am highly disappointed. I own a 2001 ChevyHD w/ 8.1L and Allison XSMN. The only thing it would reprogram was the overall speed limiter, rev limiter, and the octane preferance. Has anyone out there used something different? I put on some kick A** Hoosier LT285/75-16's and know for a fact that the speedo is 5MPH off. Any help would be great, thanks.

You can try a Superchips programmer, or a Diablo. I'm getting a custom tune personally, they blow all the store-bought programmers completely away

what exactly does a "custom tune" include and how is it done?

A custom tune is actually taking your PCM out of the truck, and sending it off to be flashed with ls1edit, or a compatible software. ANY paramater in the PCM can be changed allowing things to be altered that a handheld programmer cannot even think of doing. I know one that guarantees at least 35hp on a 93 octane tune. It costs a little more, but I definately think its worth it. Nelson, and Westers are the only types of custom tunes that I know, unless you but ls1edit yourself and make your own tune.

did you do a diameter measurement, mark the tire with chalk staight down and the pavement have a freind pull truck forward intill chalk mark is straight down again measure distance between marks try using this measurement for proggramer. but i know how you feel have 2000 k1500 with 5.3L programer made no noticable difference in performance , just ussed it to reprogram for 315 tires but program only went as high as 34" and tires are 34.8" in diameter. what a wast of money I could have bought a lap top program for $500 and made any changes i wanted.

this program requires a laptop and uses a cable adapter to access computer in truck can be use to change any of the program information , cation should be used with this program if you program the truck to down shift to 1st at 80mph it will !!!!!

yes hes right dont program your truck with edit unless you know what you're doing!! there alot of thing that can go wrong because as most of you already know we dont have LS1 motors ours are just merely based off them

As for nelson and westers...IMO i go with nelson because he uses ls1 edit to program the truck and hes damn good at it. Also he does reprogramming for free which is great.

yeah, I 've talked with Mr Nelson, and he seems to have a good thing going..as soon as I can sell my hypertech, I'm either off to texas for a tune, or either thru the mail..
