I would have to agree with you Chris. Coming from a private school myself, it's been interesting to say the least. When our network was down for four days, luckily kbslacker clued me into using a dial-up connection, and so my problems were solved. Some others figured that out as well, but overall, there were about 2,000 students causing quite a stir. Maybe it's just a sign that perhaps we have gotten rather lost in technology, so much so that we don't know how to entertain ourselves without it.

Interesting, I have a hardware firewall and I use AIM just fine. Do you have ZoneAlarm or Black Ice?

hey me be smart, me missed this the first time :bloated:. this reminds me of the time when we linked four computers to one dial-up account on the bad phone lines and it was still faster than our network except the first couple days of school.

I am not sure what we have at the office. Actually we can't download AIM so I had been using AIM Express but can't use that now. I think they blocked applets or something :(

Sonny, when I left school there was only one computer classroom.'The Computer' was kept in it . Acess to the room was by punchcard only, and only the brightest and most law-abiding hall-monitor type geeks got a card. The equipment itself took up half of the room....so I'm told.
Sadly I was one of the sudents destined never to see it.The closest I ever got was the detention room across the hall....frequently.It may surprise you to know that I was quite a smartass in school.
I must have been 34 or so before I set my fingers on a piece of Hewlett-Packard's finest...
any ways I left school early to join the Royal Navy......they very kindly adjusted my attitude for me....but that's another story.....:toothless :toothless

Darkness...... Mate maybe one of the times when your over you can help sort something out. For some dumb reason our home server wont allow direct connections between any of us and someone out outside our network.
I can upload and download files fine from other servers but we can not file transfer directly or direct chat from programms such as ICQ.
At work I have the same problems as you FTO only worse as we are locked out the net except at the server itself.
