The oil pressure in my 1994 1500 dropped to zero and the oil light came on while driving. Parked it quickly and had it towed home. Have had suggestions about replacing oil pump or sensor. Would appreciate some logical steps in isolating/correcting problem

Check to see if you have oil then check your oil pressure. Use a mechanical gauge. DO NOT RAISE YOUR IDLE until you have about 20 PSI (min) at idle. By the way, how often do you change your oil? If you do not on a regular basis then check for sludge build-up.

It is probably the oil pressure sending unit, if the motor is not knocking or rattling its most likely not the oil pump itself. The sending unit is on the back side of the engine way in the back. It's a bastard to change to.

Check oil is right I wouldn*t even let it run just connect mechcanical guage and crank it over and see if it gets some kind of reading first. If so then start.I*ve never had the oil light come on but when I change sending unit it reads on the other guage for about a month and then quits.Gonna throw the sending unit away and just put in guage this time.
