i was remotely thinking about if my car were turbocharged, what i could expect to gain. I have an 02 Lanos with a 1.6L ~115 hp 4cyl DOHC FI. conservatively, and assuming the engine was reinforced adequately, what do you estimate a rough gain could be? i dont know much about this so i cant really come up with a HP number. i am assuming i would want at least reprogrammed ECU, new pistons, rods, cams, valves, rework the exhaust, intake and exhaust manifolds, headers. whew. oh by the way this engine has a kind of "knock- off" VTEC system, not nearly as powerful. its called E-TEC and is designed for emissions although it does boost power considerably when engaged, just as VTEC does.

or should i just swap in a B16(18?) Vtec :lol2:

geez this is new idea to me well fact is Daewoo is dead in US so anything you get done will have to be custom there is and will not be an aftermarket for this car brand. It'll be alot of money but you'll be able to do it if you got the $$$

But i'm really going to sugust you save up get a real proformance car or atleast one with a aftermarket or a cult following this sounds like too much work and too little pay off to me

You'd break maybe 200hp by the time your done.. Not worth it IMO. Swap in a Zetec, Or Vtec

after you buy all the parts for it and turbo charge it you would be luck to see 250 hp. im guessing more like 220. with all teh money it would take, i sugguest goin out and buying a better car if you want ot start doin mods to your engine.

What do you guys mean he will only make 200-250 HP so he should do a swap? Are you guys joking me, a Zetec motor only makes 130 HP, 15 more than his stock motor. Vtec is a very broad term, because there are many different Vtec motors, but most don't even make all that much HP. If you even made 180 HP you would be miles ahead of either of these motors, and you could easily make 180 HP if you turbocharged your motor. Also, swapping these motors will be VERY difficult and VERY expensive unless they are direct bolt-in's...all for an extra 15 HP. Seems like an easy choice to me.

Also, most of the parts you listed as needing for turbocharging your car, you wouldn't. HP for HP, turbocharging your motor will be cheaper. If you swap, then you've spent thousands of dollars for 15 extra HP and you will need to spend thousands more to modify that motor.

More like what are you talking about? I said he would be lucky to see 200 if he turbocharged the motor he HAS in the car now. And if he swaped in a Civic SI motor B16A2 (160hp) or a Zetec VTI (142hp) he could make those motor reach alot more with alot less money..

I can't see a motor swap happening for under $1000. After you swapped that motor you would need to spend even more money on mods. Like I said before, do you know it's possible? If the motor doesn't bolt in like it was made for the car, it will be ridiculously hard and expensive. You can't just bolt any motor into any car. Then how much more would you have to spend to make the swapped motor make 200 HP? For three basic upgrades; Zetec cams $399.99, header $374.95, CAI $238. Bringing us to a total $1012.94 for three basic upgrades that might give you 40 more HP. Theres another thousand dollars and you still won't have 200 HP.

For $1500 I guarantee that motor could make 200 HP, and far more if he had the money and knew how to do it properly. With stock internals I can guarantee that it will make 200 HP reliably as long as it's tuned properly.

I don't know why you think swapping in a different motor would be cheaper, turbocharging is almost always the most cost effective HP upgrade. If he's going to swap motors he might as well buy a new car, it's easier, and I can't see why you would do this unless the stock motor is particularly weak.

DEFINITELY not the cheapest upgrade but that would make his the fastest daewoo ever.

Personally, i think you should swap the engine to a b18c, its one of the integra engines. i found a good price on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33615&item=2476300133&rd=1) it would ad quite alot of power to your ride and you still have the option of adding a turbo and getting even more.
