Computer fault# 35 what is it? 1994 Cefiro

Hi,

I just brought a 94 Cefiro - 2.5 Excimo G - 120,000km's.

Have owned it for about 3 months and up until recently the "check engine" light came on intermittently.

I kept a log of when it came on and what conditions it was under but I can truly classify it as intermittent. Example, engine warm - travelling at 50km/hr - level stretch of road - light came on for 3 minutes and then went out. Same journey - 100km/hr on the highway - light came on 3 times in 30 minutes for a few seconds each time.

Going up a steep road - light flashed like an indicator then stayed on for 40 seconds and then went out. I repeated the same stretch of road and it did not come on at all.

I had a mechanic look at it and he said it was probably the "maintenance reminder thing" - but the car was serviced before I took delivery by a Nissan dealer. He then mentioned that it probably only happened when I went over a bump (hmm - 90 bumps?). Of course I don't drive over THAT many bumps.

On my second visit to him he said he scanned the computer (I am pretty sure he used the old "split-pin-in-the-fuse-box" approach cause it only took him 30 seconds and he fiddled with the ignition key) and told me the fault code was 35. Which he said was not a valid fault code...

Other then finding a REAL mechanic - which I will do next pay day - does anyone know what "35" means?

The light has not come on now for about a fortnight and in all other aspects the car drives and handles as it should. I am just worried that "35" relates to something serious that will bite me in the rear...

Any ideas and comments appreciated.

Respectfully.

BB

I own a 94 Cefiro Excimo myself (the 2l model) so I would be interested to hear of the outcome :)

OK - there is no "35" - the code was "34" - the knock sensor. My mechanic has cleared the computer and since then the "check" light has not come back on - but I will be keeping an eye on it tho!
