headers on a 79 firebird

I have a 79 trans am and it has headers installed. I bought new ceramic coated ones to replace them, but so far, I have been unable to get the old headers out. It seems like there isn't enough clearance. Does anyone know if there are any tricks or something I need to remove to get them to come out ? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
