removing the hatch

Hi everyone,
I'm tryin to switch the hatchbacks on my 2 240sx's. I removed the screws holding the struts to the body and 2 more screws to find out the hinge nails (?) have to be removed as well. Problem is, I don't know what tool body shops use to remove these things. Could someone help?
Thanks

what? the hydo bars come off easy, after that you have to take your headliner off and unbolt the 4 screws where the hinges are(2 on each hinge). It is like a 13mm or a 14mm don't remember exactly. Also you would have to get into the passenger side trim to disconnect the harness.

Remove the molding inside the hatch area below the hatch hinges, you will see the nuts that screw onto the hinge nails. I swapped my rusted out hatch for one without a spoiler (and without rust).

Sorry, posted too soon. I went back to my car and checked it out a lil closer and found that yeah, I just need to removed 4 bolts holdin the hatch to the hinges. I haven't found the harness...but that was before I checked up on these posts. Tomorrow I'll get back to work on it, tired of parting my old car. 1st day of summer break :) Thanx vsiev. I'm doin exactly what you did kingcarm.

Before I get back to work, can anyone give me more advice on dealing with removing the hatch in respect to the wiring? As in, is it just one harness I have to unplug on the passenger side trim? Or is there another set of wires I need to unplug as well?
Thanx!

3 wires or connectors really on the rear passengerside trim near the seat under the side window....also there is a ground wire you have to unscrew on the top of the roof behind the driver seat. Unless you odn't have a defroster in the back ignore the ground wire and it might be less connectors. but try to pull the trim out a little, you would have to take off the one surrounding the rear side windows and kinda pull the lower trim out a little and reach in to unplug the harness. Hopefully the hatch you are going to put in has the harness on or you might have to drag the harness through the hatch....

wait? i was planing on getting the 92 cuz its not a hatch. Can i take the hatch off and find a regular one to convert it to the coupe look? Is this what your doing...

Nope, sorry smokurass. That's not at all what I'm doing. My hatch is badly rusted, and I have another 240sx that I'm switching hatches with (that means 2x the work :(). I'm not tryin to convert my hatch into a coupe. Nor do I think that you can really do that....considering the frame of the fastback. The hard thing is, I'm trying to switch a base model back to a SE model back, meaning I have to drill a hole for the windshield wiper.

Today I went back to work on the car. So far I got all the wiring off and thru the 2 holes at the top. The problem I'm finding now is that the bolts connecting the hatch to the hinges are covered with a glob of something rubbery. My back hurt a lot from propping up the hatch (since I removed the struts), so I've stopped at this point. Gonna have to enlist my friend into this.

yea that is probably built up paint or glob of paint. Have to chip it off or try to turn the hatch back and forth to break it.(like pull up on the right, then pull up on the left, or have someone help you smack it while you are trying to till it back and forth) It will come off though.

Yeah, I removed 2 hatches today (easy part) and exchanged the wiring on the 2 to keep my windshield wiper assembly (that was a bitch!). The wiring doesn't go thru very well; me and my friend had to use a stiff metal tape to get it through. Tomorrow I have to dirll a 1.125'' hole to make room for the wiper blade.

I bought some Rustoleum primer to prevent the newly drill hole from rusting; is that enough to prevent rust or do I need more? I was gonna paint the hole w/ touch-up paint afterwards.

you should of attached a string to the end of the harness then put it leaving the string where the harness is, the attach the new harness to the string and pull the string back...that is what i did. But yea the harness was a b*tch...i had to cut the connectors and attach them back...
