How bad is it...?

So a quick question...
How bad is it to overfill oil? I have a 2.2 liter 4 cylinder in the 1998 Sunfire se, and the shop that I took it to for a few things overfilled my oil. What kind of problems can that cause, and how quickly would they start? It was like between a 1/4 and a 1/2 inch overfull on my dipstick. I had to take it back twice for them to "take some out" but I am afraid that the damage was done.
Any help?
Thanks -B

I don't think that much oil will do any damage. If you put an extra 1.5 liters, then it may cause the oil to leak. Don't worry about it and just enjoy the car. On imports it starts to burn oil.

Overfilling the oil shouldn't damage anything. The only effect it may have is that your car may feel sluggish since the crankshaft in your engine will be swimming in oil.

Hey, thanks a lot for your replies. That is good news. It worried me that when I took it back they didn't want to do another oil change, rather they wanted to just take some out, and then said that it read that it had MORE oil than before. Since that is impossible, I guess they wrote it off. Is that a wierd thing? I mean, even after the second time taking it back it still read that it had more in it. Odd.

A little too much oil will not hurt anything, so I wouldn't worry about. Are they checking the oil when the car is running or with the motor off? This will effect the reading on the dipstick. If they are checking it while the engine is running then you should go to a different place for oil changes!

I have had several bad experiences with places that do quick oil changes, and have decided to go back to changing my oil myself. I have come to the conclusion that most of the people that work at these places know as much about cars as the kid who bags my groceries.
