trying for 15's

Me and my friends are having a competition to see who can get in the 15's first. I was wondering what I could do to get my car in the 15's first, I already have exhaust and a CAI. I don't want to go the nitrous route cause I don't think my car could handle it with how many miles I have on my car.

Clutch and flywheel. You'll be there with those 2 mods. Assuming you have a 5-spd V6 Mustang.

Competition Shift kit and Aftermarket Cam.......should get you there, but u do have the v6, so i can't gaurantee anything!

Yeah, with an automatic the only things I would suggest as a non-forced-induction mod, would be cams and headers.

Well, 8 tenths will be hard to come by, especially if you are not going the forced induction route. Like the others said, you'll have to do some modifications to the internals of your engine. Thing is, if you change the cam and you have higher mileage, you might want to rebuild the engine too.

I'd suggest trying to loose some weight and change the gear ratio, and learn how to drive that car like no other! That and tires. Get the best gripping tires available! If you could shed a couple 100 pounds from the car, put a shorter gear in it, and pull off hte perfect launch, then that woudl get ya alot closer then what you are.

Get 4:10 gears,3000 stall converter and t loc and with a good launch and good tires you should be able to be in the 15's.Or you could put some slicks on your car and you'll be in the 15's.

just ebcause you slap on some racing slicks it doesn't mean you will run faster times. He might not even have the power to run slicks, to much traction for his slightly modded GT.Which would make him lose time.You can't go an throw slicks on something an expect it to be faster. You are retarted, you think a GT would be running in the 16s?? My advice to you to get in the fifteens is to buy a V8, instead of some shitty v6. I could lend you my car, but you might kill yourself in it.

Really now, you can handle a car thats best 1/4 time is a 9.88, and is also a daily driver, you must be pretty talented for a 6 cyl. driver.

94-98 v-6 mustangs only have like 150 hp and yes they are slow.Now a 99-04 v-6 mustang has 190 hp and that runs mid to high 15's stock with a manual and 16's with an auto.Still pretty slow but alot better than a 94-98 v-6 mustang with only 150 hp.Those hp ratings are pretty said for a v-6 but if people want more power then thats why there is the Gt,mach 1 and cobra.

Blown 01 Cobra.

Here's a list in order of what you should do.

-Have gears (4.10's) and a Trac-Lok installed.
-Underdrive pulleys and a high flow air filter with the air silencer removed.
-Shift kit
-Exhaust. Headers, convert to duel exhaust with an h-pipe and a good set of free flowing mufflers.
-Practice your driving skill, I'm sure you can shave a few tenths with practice.

As far as cams go, like mentioned earlier. NO, bad idea, stay away for your car.

I do have more than that to run those numbers. A blower got me into mid 11s then internals to run higher boost and other parts, LT headers, cut-outs, off-road x-pipe, etc. many other mods as well.

I'm gonna have to say that lower rearend gears (something around 3.73) and some tranny work will do the most without going to forced induction.

What year is the Mustang, changing injectors and a power chip could be beneficial.

Exhaust will definitely be the best choice.
I would change to a five speed, get read of the automatic.
Do not go to a 3000 stall speed it is way to high for your engine.
If you do rebuild the engine have a little milled off the heads, and add a mild cam.

I had an 84 Capri v6 that ran 15.5's.
I have a straight six ford f150 that runs high 16,s (with 3.08 gears)
I had a naturally aspirated 2.3L that ran high 15.'s (using 14.4 comp)

I don't knock on the little engines at all, though my Mustang now has a 460.

Ditch the mustang, and just go buy another car!
Simple as that. 15's in the quarter are not hard to get, and they aren't even that impressive anyway!
Go buy a car that runs 15's stock and then mod that car. Then you'll at least have a 14 second car. I wouldnt waste my time modding a V6 mustang, it's not worth it. :rolleyes:

I say have fun with your car and forget what these guys are saying. Its your car and you like it. It can still be cool, V6 or not. I also doubt that you have alot of money for this competition with your friend, so blower sounds way outta line. You would have to change your whole bottom end and pistons, forged everything. PRICEY! Go gears. You can have a slow ass car, but with gears it looks like a beast! Fairly cheap too, keeping your college situation in mind.

Generaly speaking every 100lbs shed is a .010 off 1/4 mile time. I don't think you will be sheding 800 pound anytime soon. If you weigh a ton have your skinny bro drive..hehe Also, Dont know what you got in the trunk but every bit of excess weight helps. Lose the spare etc.. and be sure the A/C is turned off. Being a V6 I'm sure it lags down the engine. Other than that... Buy a V8..or a Buick Grand National.. That V6 Eats V8's for dinner all day long. But I think your wasting money on any old V6.

come on man, v6 mustang doing 16.8? thats a P.O.S. my P.O.S. widebody hatch ran a 16.4. its a little 1.6 inline 4. i only spent like 3 grand on it. (wide body kit is expensive, 1399.00) i bought another hatch for 2,500 and it does 14's all day(gsr swap came in it:)) anyway if u wanna get into 15's 1st step is change over to a 5sp.
