A "will not start" condition can be caused by a number of items, so it's important to know what lead up to it, and if anything was done right before the condition started.
Was the car running when it stopped and will not start?
When's the last time it started?
Has the car been sitting for a very long time?
Are all sensors and vacuum lines hooked up - from any recent work?
How many miles on vehicle?
You said it had compression so I assume it is cranking?
Any funny or loud noises while it is cranking?
Make sure A/C is off.
Have you checked the timing?
Timing belt slipped a tooth or two?
Last time you changed/checked the spark plugs, dist cap and rotor.
Any new leaks under car?
Is check engine light on?
Problem began after getting a load of gas?
As you eliminate the common stuff, you begin to get into some expensive and hard to diagnose possible caused like: fuel injectors, coils/resistors, ECM, relays, sensors, etc.

Your initial note indicated that you had "compression", so that through me off. The car would not start with low compression in just one cylinder?
