550cc good enough?

I am wondering for future buys, to save a lil money would 550cc work well enough with the EvoIII 16G turbo?

Oh by the way anyone have an extra 3grand laying around that i could perhaps use? :p Naww, didn't think so...figure i would try.

It's about on the line. You could do fine for a while, but when you're pushing the 16g it could bring those 550's near 100% IDC.

On pump gas yes they might not be enough, race gas, they should sufficce.

i wouldnt push my luck on the 550s, but it also depends on what fuel management you are going with. 660s and an AFC may ont have enough ranbge to lean out fully on race gas. IF you get creative in the search I posted a toin of info on this subject. Ideally you would do a EPROM ECU and a chip by keydiver, full injector compensation. ;) For a 2g, DSMlink would be the route to take. You can run any size injector you want with these two options. OTherwise its always a compromise. Good luck.

Can you get a DSMlink for a nt g2?

no. dsmlink is only for the 2g turbo sorry.

Where exactly is the ecu located, to tell if i have an eprom or not...yeah i am dumb but gettin smarter with this stuff ;)

The ECU is behing the radio and down. You have to remove the driver and pass kick panels on the console side to get to it.

IF YOU TAKE IT APART: Do so in a static free environment and be wary of the screws...they strip faster than a poor girl in Holywood.

just use a really small philips head, and an Eletostacic disiplaicment wristband, any computer geek store will have one. try radio shack. like 6 bucks

all you do is take the passanger side console panal off and shign a flashlight on the top of the brass box and you will see a sticker on it, and on that sticker in the lower right corner it will either have and E on it or not. If it has a E your in good shape if no E your about to have to spend $300+ for a EPROM ECU

Well i checked and luckily i have the EPROM ECU, so now all i need is to order the dsmlink with the chip? Is the chip easy to install??

if you want a little more than 550's but dont want to spend an extra 100 on 660's extreme psi has a set of 580cc injectors for like 300. i have the evoIII 16G and i run at 21 lbs of boost at the track and they work fine. Ive had my car dyno tuned and we actually had to lean them out because i was running a little rich(on 21lbs), so i know there not reaching 100% IDC.

Great! That will help, go check them out right away

Thats funny, mine had an E on it and was NOT eprom. If I got 5 cents for everytime I posted this... Todd Day has always required that you open the ECU to look for the eprom chip before you send it to him, for this reason! Just a heads up. You have to oepn the thing up... Takes 10 minutes total.

damn so now i have to open it up and check to see if it has the eprom, i hope so! Be letting ya know if it does or not.

Another thing, I would only recomend FIC injectors. MAny of the other available do not flow what they advertise, because they are tested at a pressure different from what we run in our cars. Only trust the numbers if they rate them at 43 psi. On a 1g they will flow a little less since 1Gs run at 38 psi base fuel pressure. FICs are the best thing going now. SBR has good prices on them, but shop around just in case. I run 950s with DSMlink. I would suggest running at least 850s if you do get DSMlink. There is no reason not to go huge, and never have to worry about it again. Without DSMlink though, you have to be more careful about how large you go.

Would that kit work for a GS?

No

I have some FIC 550's coming soon from SBR :D

For what its worth, I have used the FIC 650s, 850s, and 950s. All have performed as advertised. Blue top Denso 660s were great too. RC 550s were ok, and some black/grey top "660s" were all over the place (720-820) and the car didnt even want to run.

Blue top Denso 660s were great too.

thats what i am running right now and i have yet to have a problem with them!

Its not so much about having problems with injectors, but minor variations in flow rates between injectors, dead time, or dead time varations between injectors. With some experience you can pick out these problems imediately when looking at a DSMlink log, or trying to tune with DSMlink. Some types are jsut terrible, and make tuning a huge pain in the ass :)
