Please someone help, 1988 Cutlass Cierra Coupe, 3.8 6cyl. wont start, lights come on, everything that runs straight from batter works. When I turn the key, nothing happens, no dash lights, nothing. We changed the ignition switch on the column and the neutral start back up light switch, replaced the positive battery cable. The starter and solenoid does jump so it is good...what next? Do they have a brain box that could have shorted out? HELP!!!!!

I would check the fuses inside the vehicle to make sure none of the fuses are blown. Check the fuses in the engine bay and it is usually located on the passenger side section.
The other problem is the remote terminal positive cable. This cable comes from the battery postive cable and goes to the driver side in the engine bay. It is called remote positive terminal near the fuel pump relay/fuse. The positive terminal cable is secured down by a nut. If that nut is not fully tight, it will allow you have to have lights, etc., but not enough to crank the engine. Make sure that nut is tightened good.

I checked all the fuses and I checked the remote terminal positive cable when I replaced the positive to the starter cable. I know there are quite few fusible links that could be involved...hopefully I won't have to go through those. The car was running when this happened too, and had been for awhile, it just died and never started again....

Put a meter on the battery when you go to crank it. This is to test the battery for a dead cell. Have you tried to jump it?

The engine should at least turn over by the starter when you turn the ignition switch regardless if the computer is working properly or not.
I suspect some wiring in the ignition switch has burned up or not connected properly. You may have to trace the wire from the starter solenoid going to the ignition switch.
